Free WAP on Verizon Slider

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: InTheShadows

I don't know if this is old news or not, but I'm going to share my discovery anyway.

I recently purchased a VM slider from ebay, and followed the directions here to unlock and activate it on my verizon service, and low and behold it worked!!! I had read a few posts in here about free WAP not working, but I had an idea and it ended up working!

I went back into the service menu (by pressing 111111, then ok)
then I clicked broswer setup, and click UpLinkA. I then changed the IP to 207.232.099.109, and the port to 9201. Then hit next. I then entered the same information here. (I don't know how important it is, but I did it to be safe). This is the IP and port for the free WAP gateway at WapTunnel.com. Now, using the method described in this forum, I can add a URL to my contacts and it will successfully access the WAP site. I don't know about the ACTUAL verizon slider, but this worked for my VM slider on the verizon network.

so i'm happy now.

Same process works up to after the Uplink A. It wants a 6 digit security code..any ideas?

if you have a VM slider you unlocked for Verizon, it should be 000000 . If that doesn't work, try 868666, which is the unlock code for the VM sliders.

good luck

Posted by: gabri3l

For my verizon slider it is 000000, Let me know if you get it working on the actual Verizon phone. I haven't bothered trying it out yet

Posted by: ihaveaslider

Yes, it works on the actual Verizon Slider.

Posted by: SALPAP

I appreciate everybody's help. It is now up and running with the 6 digit security code being 000000. I am new here and have had a friend talk about how reliable everyone is on here for years now. He is 100% right!! Thanks again, Enjoy teh rest of your day....

Posted by: gabri3l

Thanks, I just added the info in Uplink.B and its working great I can switch between waptunnel and VZW wap now whenever I want.

Posted by: Chadman226

I cant get my verizon slider phones free wap to work. I went into the 111111 service menu and set the browser to the wap tunnel address and port. Then I added a url from a free ringtone site to my contacts list and selected the address and pressed the connect/talk button. It sais connecting...., and then quickly sais "service not available". What could I be doing wrong? Help please?

Sweet... worked great! Thanks for sharing your settings! I was using some other WAP gateway and it wasn't working... should've gone back to the WAPTunnel settings.

So does this mean in the contact we should add a new name and add www.waptunnel.com under URL and when we want to connect we should go to that name in the contact and then highlight the URL and then press call botton?

Posted by: Devilish

Well when I do this I get a message saying Service not available.

Try using wap.google.com for testing... works on my end.

It means you dont have service in somewhere where you have good service and try again

Posted by: jaguar_wsc

i dont know what the deal is... but i did what he said about changing the ip and port to the waptunnels addy, and i added a URL to my contact list... but when do i press the talk button? I tried pressing it everywhere i can with the url and name on the screen and nothing happens. no connecting or anything to show that its doing something. what gives?

I went to contacts in main menu... add new .... URL.... then typed in the wap address.... and save. saved successfully. then i go to contacts and press send under the name... and nothing. what the f uck?

Posted by: Devilish

Posted by: Devilish

You need to highlight the URL and then press the OK botton not the call botton.

Hope this helps.

Posted by: SALPAP

I think all you have to do is then run teh wap web browser which is teh left scroll button hit and hold...that then runs teh mobile web. worked on mine. when they then ask for a web address, i use www.yahoo.com

Posted by: jaguar_wsc

i tried both... holding the left button goes to virgin xtras i which i do not have virgin (i have the unlocked one on verizon) and highlighting it and pressing ok goes to more options and none of which says to go to that site. Do i have to subscribe to virginmobile or something? i thought free wap meant free internet on your phone. are minutes counted toward your airtime?

This is what I am doing at it works... I have wap.google.com defined as a URL contact. I open up contacts, hit OK on WAP Google, hit the down arrow once to select the URL, and hit Send.

Yes, using WAP uses airtime as any call would.

Posted by: jaguar_wsc

dammit... nothing happens when i do this. i open up contact and scroll to a wap contact name... press ok... then it shows options and the wap URL... i press down once to highlight the wap url and press send... nothing happens at all.... i press ok and it goes to more options like erase.edit, view, exit. none of them take me to a connecting screen.

PS when i enter in the wap site ip and port, one of the zeros in the ip (099) is automatically removed. is that supposed to happen?

Yeah, the zero going away shouldn't be a problem.

In your contact entry, is "http" ahead of the rest of the URL? In my case, my entry says "http://wap.google.com/" and the type is set to URL.

Posted by: hongkongrr

Do I use my minutes when browsing the web though? Or are you saying that this is completly free?

Browsing doesn't use minutes.

yes http is in front... i even tried it without. it doesnt even say its trying to connect. the only time it says its trying to connect is when i hold the left arrow and it tries to connect to virginxtras and fails. i guess my phone wont let you wap?

Posted by: hongkongrr

So then no charge is incurred at all? Sorry for being so skeptical, but I just wanted to be completly sure. Thanks for all help

On Verizon it certainly does... it will show as a "data" call on the bill. I've been using WAPTunnel for long enough to know.

Yeah, unfortunately I don't know what the problem could be... mine's working fine on my VM Slider on Verizon. Maybe there is a software difference somewhere.

well that sucks ×××. is there a housing for the slider like the one you got in your avatar?

No, I think the avatar is a Seimens Slider, which is designed a little differently than the Kyocera.

Posted by: hongkongrr

Hey pgens,

So the data call uses your minutes? So technically at night I can surf WAP all i want?

Posted by: C-money

probably not......most providers charge you by the amount of data your phone downloads EX. 3 cents a kilobyte

Posted by: TheMatrixx

Thanks. Seems to work for me on VZN Slider.

That's when I did all my setup stuff for the first time... sure helps when it's working on and off while you're doing it for the first time.

One other thing to conisder... when you are loading pages, reading, then going to other links sometimes the data call is terminated and then restarts when you load a link. May be something to consider given that Verizon uses one-minute minimums for calls.

Posted by: z0ink

I am on a VZW prepay plan and after trying several gateways, including my own using WAP3GX, I have been unable to establish a connection. I always get the "service not available" error message. I am curious as to there are limitations in my package where I cannot make any data connections. If anybody with a prepaid plan has been successful in connecting with their SE47, please post a reply with your experience.

so...this is free rightas in no charges on my bill?

not neccesarily... you will get charged airtime, but verizon usually charges you a monthly fee to access their WAP gateway. This one is free, so its gets you around the monthly fee. So the best bet is to do it during off peak or weekends, then it should be completely free.

In your URL bookmark, does it say http://www.wap.google.com or http://wap.google.com? I'm using the second one.

Posted by: cratos

What are you supposed to get when you go to wap.google.com? All I get is something like the google search page. What site do I go to to download ringtones? Can I make my own site so that I can upload my own ringtones?

Thanks

Posted by: Devilish

Yes I did have the WWW before the address and I did remove the www and it is working now. Thank you

Now i need to find out how to use the web on my phone. I have to practice on weekends and after 9 PM

I am sure I will have more questions for people on the great site.

Thanks again

Its nice to finally have free WAP on the VZN Slider, but I wish we could use it to download (ringtones and wallpapers) with it. Hopefully somebody will figure out a way

I think its becuase of the WAP gateway, not the phone. It appears as thought the phone supports it, but I think the Free gateway has lots of limitations.

good luck

I followed the exact same directions, got a NETWORK ERROR message. I am on Verizon using Slider SE47.

Does anyone know if this WAP Tunnel 207.232.099.109:9201 address is still active?

From the WAPTunnel forum:

From: waptunnel

Subject: waptunnel service

Hi everybody,

This message is to notify you that the internet connection that was
was used by Waptunnel for several years went down and will no longer
be available.

We might be back online in June, in which case the new IP information
will be posted on the web site and you will have to reconfigure the
settings on your WAP-enabled devices then to use the new service.

Sorry for inconvenience.

Does anyone know of any other sites similar (free) to wap tunnel that we can use?

awwwwwwwww no more free wap . I read somewhere that ericson has a free WAP server, i'll invistage and see if I can find the address of it.

stupid WAPTunnel.

Use this new gateway:

IP: 12.25.203.11 PORT:9201

This is a server for free that is given to the public by the
Openwave comporation.

This is their web site

Posted by: GaMMaX

So using a 3rd party WAP at night, there won't be any "data time" charges on my bill?

Well, minutes are minutes, so if you have a night/weekend minutes, I think it would be subtracted from them. If you have unlimited nights or lots of extra night/weekend minutes, its the most ideal time to use the mobile web.

Also, thanks for the new WAP portal, it works great!

*sign*
do some research. all you have to do is put the url your trying to go in a contact. you can assign contacts web addresses. do this and then 'call' the web address and it will take you there. dont try to use the internet via just launching the open wave browser, it just takes you to their crummy home page.

sure enough, I got it to connect.

BUT, does it burn minutes on Verizon just like a call does? Or does it cost in addition to your used minutes?

I am going to try to use it during FREE night minutes to see what it is all about as I have never been able to browse since Verizon shut it down a while back right when I got my phone.

How to you switch between uplinka and b?

Does anyone know the security code for Bell Mobility?

I've tried 000000 847446 and 868666 all they do is turn the phone off and on again. (rebooting I guess)

Please and thank you!

Posted by: moru11

thanks for the gateway!

i have a question about accessing yahoo email. i saved http://wap.yahoo.com as a url and have no trouble getting to it. after inputting my login name and passwd, it doesn't pull up email - it just brings me back to the login id again.

i have similar issues w/citysearch - i can get to the site, but when i click on a link, it'll just go back to the same page.

i'm using the kyocera se47, which i think uses wap 1.0 - is it just that these sites don't work well w/wap 1.0?

Posted by: HPilot

Used the 012.025..... address etc. and was able to access the NOAA WAP weather site. It works!!!

for verizon phones let me get this straight

your minutes are used and show up as data calls but verizon doesn't charge the flat WAP monthly charge. I get this.

now about the kb charge. does connecting to the WAP charge for data transferred? could someone who's connected go to menu>settings>call information>kilobyte counter and check how much data has been transferred? cause I'd like to know if it's completely free to use at night(I have free nights and weekends) or if I'm running a high bill using this. thanks.

Posted by: boyo3221

you have to input it in ur main program section, if ur phoen is verizon on ur main dialing area, where u would dial numbers dial 11111 then a whole new menu pops up then go to change browser ip, it will ask for a sec code, it wil be 00000, then u have to input the new ip listed earlier in this thread, somnething like 25.112.34. etc....... try that then put the sites like google in ur contacts and use them

Posted by: J Peezy

Im having the same problem. I put the ip and port from page 1 in. Then made a contact with web address wap.google.com. I go to contacts, pick google, press down to highlight wap... hit talk= nothing, hit ok= nothing. Am i missing something. I have a kx2, dont know if that changes something. I put the adress just like it says. Should it be http: or www.wap.?

Posted by: boyo3221

what ip portal is everyone using now, since opnewaves free one is down?

Posted by: J Peezy

well i put the ip from page 5 in and at least i dont get an error any more. I get request timed out now. The contacts thing doesnt work on my kx2. Is there no way to set the home page differant from verizons? I can do this on my vx8000 and wap works fine.

Posted by: boyo3221

hey slider dude what gateway are you using now. The free openwave gateway went down for me in the last week or so. do u have another free gateway u are using?

Posted by: shfonseca

Please post IPs for free wap!!! Openwave is down!

Posted by: joshuak

I got as far as the browser set up

It says it is for openwave

What do I do now

I see

Show URL
About Openwave
Encryption
UP.LINK
Restart

Please Help

For UplinkA it says already using that server and Uplink B says IP is missing

Also What are the benefits of WAP over what comes standard with the phone?
Thanks

Josh

Posted by: boyo3221

now just insert in ur contacts url's of sites, example www.wap.google.com.. and so on and so forth, the openwave one is ur home page, use the cool sites option to get to sites like espn.com and others. to access sites directly use ur contacts

Posted by: boyo3221

no internet comes standard with the phone, u have to pay 5 dollars a month .this a free version. same web just different gateways to it, a free one like this or verizons pay one. i use the wap web for handy stuff like mapquest and movie times and the weather and my yahoo email. the yahoo site is great. wap.yahoo.com i think
