I have an 8390 and an 8890. I love the 8890, but wish it had some of the features of the 8390 (voice recorder, WAP, fading LEDs, etc...) Does anyone think it would be possible to get the brains of the 8390 into the 8890?

No it is not possible because firstly, the 8890 is more modular, and second the power connector is in a totally different place.

What about just some of the more basic components from the 8390? Like the screen?
I really want to make the LEDs fade in and out. How can we do this? How is this done on the 8390? Is it software or hardware? I don't know much about circuitry, but I assume that there is some sort of resistor/capacitor buffer or something that gets the full voltage from the phone but slowly spills it over to the LEDs.
A waitress at the Cracker Barrell spilt tea on my 8390, and if I want corporate HQ to send me money they want the 8390. I'm only going to do that if I can't take any fun parts from the 8390 to use on my 8890 (except the battery, which I will definately not send them).

On the 3390 at least, you can add the fading led effect with software added to the firmware. I bet it could be modified for the 8890 as well. It's on nokiafree.org in one of the flashing software sections.

For the fading LED effect, get the V12.20 firmware.
