How to tranfer games with the v600 via Bluetooth

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: headst1r

Alot of people seem to be having problems transferring games from their computer to their v600 via BT. Let me first say that you cannot do it directly using OBEX object push on the main BT screen. Here is what you have to do:

Open up Bluetooth on your computer. From here Click on the 'Folders' tab on the top of the screen. Then, on the left side, click on 'Entire bluetooth neighborhood'. From here, motorola phone should appear in the window. Right-click on the icon and select 'discover available services'. Now, you should get 4 icons in your window. Here is where you will drop the .jar files into OBEX object push.

You do not need the .jad files for this, only .jar files will work. Once you drop that file into the object push, your phone will prompt you of an incoming file transfer. Hit accept and the game should transfer, then install.

Hopefully this will clear up some confusion

Posted by: headst1r

Yeah it is tricky I must have answered 10+ posts about this, so I figured I'd start a thread that is easily searchable Hopefully this helps everyone out!!

Posted by: GT-[R]

make it a sticky!

Posted by: Yggdrasil

sweetness, it works! half the games i tried wouldn't run correctly though

is there a way to add the icon to the game? it seems liek when you install using a jad it will include the icon, but how can i go about adding icons using bluetooth?

thanks!!

Posted by: headst1r

That I am not sure about. Most of these games are for the v300/400 and those sometimes do not have full sound or the icon. I have downloaded ones specifically for the v600 and they work flawlessly.

Justin

Posted by: outlaw2_0

If you only see 3 folders click the back button and you should see the 4 ur lookin for. I had that prob too.

Posted by: GeckoAlpha

The back button is not even highlighted, so that won't work.

Posted by: mobilemod

Yea, the back button is not highlighted for me either so that wont work... Does anyone know I really want to get some games on here!!

Justin

Posted by: GeckoAlpha

I think us Mac users will have to use Virtual PC.

And I'm not sure if that will work!

Posted by: mobilemod

Virtual PC doesnt work because it wont see the built in bluettoth for my powerbook. Anyone know??

Justin

Posted by: lilmill

I followed the directions from jonsguides.com to reinstall the BT drivers and got the OBEX Object push to work, but Moto phone tools would not. So I reinstalled DL'ed the latest drivers for the dlink dbt120 adaptor. Every thing seems to work except OBEX Object push. when I do that it open outllok for some addess card BS

Holy Lord, it worked! I'm still going to try and open up the Java App Loader with my USB cable for later use, but this worked like a charm on BT! Thanx!

Posted by: [timko]

No probs, glad I helped

Posted by: GeckoAlpha

I wonder if you can use the USB data cable under Virtual PC to access the v600.

If only I had that cable...

You can try eBay, they're dirt cheap on there

Posted by: IRIS

as far as I know the USB Cable won't work with VPC. Well at least not here. I tried it with Win98SE WinXP Home and WinXP Pro.
BTW I'm using VPC 6.1 on MacOS 10.3.3

If it wont delete via the phone sadly youll have to do a master reset and master clear which will clear all your games/pics and phone numbers stored on the phone.

It reverts it back as to when you first received it

Posted by: lzydvl

i followed the steps got the 4 icons. i tried to drop the games into the OBEX object push icon. but it gives me this message. "The Business Card could not be received. Error: Error establishing connection".

can anyone help me to solve the problem? Thanks.

Game transfer works great via BT! Thanks a lot. I was having a heck of a time getting Midway to work via the cable. (no luck at all, actually) I'm happy now!

I just bought a Linksys Bluetooth adapter and installed it for my XP PC. When I bring up "My Bluetooth Places" it is empty and, when I ask it to "View devices in range" it doesn't find my v600, which is only inches away.

When I right-click on the Bluetooth icon in the system tray to bring up the Setup Wizard, it asks me to choose from:

1) I know the service I want to use and I want to find a Bluetooth device that provides that service

2) I want to find a specific Bluetooth device and configure how this computer will use its services

3) I want to configure the Bluetooth services that this computer will provide to remote devices

4) I want to change the name and/or device type that this computer displays to other Bluetooth devices

I'm not sure what I want so I chose (1). It then gives me a list of services, none of which seems to be what I want:

Bluetooth Serial Port
Network Access
Dial-up Networking
PIM ITem Transfer
File Transfer
Fax
PIM Synchronization
Headset
Audio Gateway
Printer
Human Interface Device

I tried a couple but, in the end, it was not able to detect anything.

Any ideas, help or advice?

Thanks!

Did you put the v600 in discoverable mode when you did the "View devices in range" search on the pc?

Posted by: !smar

nice....

BTW you gotta search for your device then go to it and drop jar file on OBEX Object Puch icon

Posted by: cybohemia

Strange...I look in Settings->Connection and all I see is "Sync" - isn't there supposed to be a Bluetooth Link? Or is it somewhere else?

Posted by: Joshh100

will this also work for the V710? I just got it tonight and I want to put some games on it

Posted by: jankonozka

What am I doing wrong ? I see only

Dial-Up networking Gateway
Inbox
Public Folder

??? any ideas ??? do I need, before I try to upload game via bluetooth, enable somethink through USB cable ???

Thanks

Posted by: dental stud-ent

I did this before, but then it stopped working on my 551. I then noticed that my computer had started recognizing my phone as another computer rather than a phone for whatever reason, and everytime I would rediscover the phone it would come up as a computer. I then changed the name of the phone and rediscovered it, and somehow that got the computer to realize it was a phone...then it started working. Oh, and I can delete the games just fine too!

I had the exactly same thing happen to me

what you want to do is drag the .jar file over to INBOX.. then your phone will ask you to confirm the file transfer, and will ask you if you want to install it, and then play it..

Posted by: utahman3431

When I try to send any .jar or .jad file, it says connecting to my computer on the phone, but then says "Request not allowed: Cancelling"!!! Then I get an error on my computer saying that the request could not be honored. Is there anything else I could do???

1. Are you dragging the .JAR file into your OBEX OBJECT PUSH folder?

2. Is your phone opened so you can accpet the file transfer when prompted?

Posted by: CrazyRabbit

I was getting a bit irritated when I was trying to get the .jar file to transfer. I kept searching and found this thread...sweetness!
Thank you for the clarification!

lgreenberg, your sig is AWESOME! that is so hilarious thx for the laughs

Posted by: iLLestOne

Not working for me. I can get pictures off my comp, but when I put the .jar file in the "obex PUSH" folder, it keeps saying "This item could not be sent to Mike's Phone. Error: Error establishing connection"

Posted by: phanbot

I'm not exactly sure, but I believe that there's a java applet that needs to be installed from PST first in order to install games via the usb cable. I was thinking that you might need that program installed in order to send games via bluetooth.

Posted by: iLLestOne

I read another FAQ, and saw to disable "secure connection" for file transfer, and to turn off the phone for 30 sec. Tried that, and now it works

Thanks again!
