need help with ring tones

I just got the data cable for my phone and I want to download ringtones but it won't let me I always get a error message. I can download pictures for wallpaper but when I go to do the ringers it won't work does anyone have any suggestions.

Some questions for you:
*What does the error you are recieving say?
*What cable are you using (Brand & Model#)?
*What program are you using to transfer the files?

it says the com5 error manipulating my phone is a vx4400 and the type of cable I got is usb data cable the cable with the box in the middle the program I am using is bitpim 0.62. Thank you for your reply

In the data settings menu of BitPim, click on the COM config button and then browse. You should get a list of all operating COM ports on your system. Look for the one that references your phone. If it says inoperable or unavailable, try refreshing the list. If it still is unavailable, try using a different USB port---this actually solves many COM related errors.
