i have two questions about the se47. i got mine two days ago and im loving except one thing. every time i go to get it now (verizon wireless obviously) it says unable to retrieve catalog. please try again later. (534) any help on that will help alot thanx

my second questions is what the hell is gps?? i may sound stupid to you guys but i have asked my friends wat its for and if it has any use other than to locate your phone when the cops are looking for it. any help on this will be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU

As to the first question...I have no idea since I don't use vzw. You might want to call their tech support

In regards to the gps, I assume you know that is global positioning. Basically on a wireless phone you have 2 options, 911 only and 'always on'. I think there are varying names for the latter. Anyhow, for 911 only, when you dial 911 (assuming E911 phase 2 has been implemented where you are), the psap will be able to obtain your gps position somewhat accurately. It obviously doesn't work in most buildings and obstructed sky areas too well. You will also notice the the phone 'cuts' out a little bit in the first part of the 911 call. That is because the phone is utilizing the same receiver for the phone and the gps (unless you have a nokia which happens to have 2 rcvrs). Make sure to hang on the line. I have noticed it takes between 10-15 seconds sometimes for this to clear up, unfortunately some 911 operators hang up on you. Anyhow, the second setting can be used if your carrier provides gps based services. There are several ways they could use this, one being you could look for a particular resteraunt or gas station near where you are and it would pull up the location for you nearest you. That's kind of a long answer, but hopefully helps you understand the gps portion a little bit more. It's nothing overly sofisticated, mostly just for your convenience.

As far as your first question, you need to call CS and let them know the exact error code you are getting. I think I was getting the same error code and called them and it was something they had to activate on their end. Since then its working fine. They will have you try it while you are on the phone with them. Hope that helps.

to the first Q it might just be because you got it 2 days ago sometimes it takes a while for that stuff to start working
