What is Sanyo's deal? Are they a division of GE or did they merge with them? I remember seeing their symbol and a GE symbol together once. Or is it a Japanese company as I first suspected?

Sanyo is a Japanese company. The reason you saw the GE and Sanyo name together is because Sanyo supplies GE batteries.
