Are WAP or SMS downloads possible w/MetroPCS Kyocera Slider?

I have spent 2 hours reading through the threads in here and ignorantly thought the instructions I was reading for getting WAP and ringtones would work on my phone since we all have the slider. But I realized 2 hours too late that all that info was for people with either Virgin Mobile or Verizon.

My major concern is WAP. What I want to know is if there is any way to get WAP to work on the slider with MetroPCS as your service provider. MetroPCS does not currently offer any WAP access on any of their phones, at least not in my area. They have web browser software on all their phones but they don't get you anywhere. However my slider has the same BREW technology that you guys have and it allows me to connect to metro's own private service to download crap (with rip off prices) so it seems like my phone is able to get online somewhat.

When I tried following the suggestions I read in other threads, I realized that my Metro Slider will not let me change UP.Link A because there's a different security code for the MetroPCS slider and none of you know it. But you can still get into UP.Link B and change the settings in there, and then load up the browser software and tell it to use UP.Link B to connect instead of UP.Link A. So I am guessing that UP.Link B is the method Metro users would have to use. But unfortunately I've already tried putting in the IP you guys provided on other threads for waptunnel.com's WAP service into UP.Link B but it just doesn't want to work with my Metro PCS slider. It just gets stuck on "Sending >>>>" until I disconnect. Is this because my service provider (Metro PCS) doesn't provide any web browsing gateway/service to begin with? Or should we still be able to use waptunnel's service for WAP since we have the ability to connect to metro's brew service?

The other thing I am wondering about is SMS. I can recieve text messages with my phone but cannot send them since I don't really use text messaging that much. But I am wondering if the slider phone lets you store sounds and pics that you recieve in text messages. I'm sure you guys already know that this phone lets you send images and sound clips over a text message that you have stored in My Sounds and My Images, but does it allow you to save an incoming image or sound clip that someone sends you to your My Sounds and My Images folders too? If so, then wouldn't that mean that it would technically be possible to use SMS to get ringtones/sound clips and wallpapers with our slider phones? What kind of sound clips are these default ones that come with phone? I can email my phone by sending a message to my#@mymetropcs.com and it recieves the email as if it were a text message, so wouldn't there be some way of using an email to send ourselves sound clips and wallpapers since the phone is able to recieve sound clips and pics through SMS?

I just tried sending a blank email to my phone with no subject or text, just a 2kb .wav file attached to it and my email was sent back to me and it had been rejected. It said this:

----- Transcript of session follows -----
... while talking to e01s06.tsimms.com.:
>>> DATA
<<< 550 Message rejected

After that I attached a 9 byte .txt file to another blank email and tried sending that and got the same message.

I guess MetroPCS is setup to automatically reject any emails sent that include attachments. That really does suck. I wonder what is so special about the format that sound clips and pics are that we have in My Sounds and My Pictures folders that allows the text message service to recieve that type of data but not email attachments.

sounds cannot be sent through sms, your phone must use ems for that. The problem is ems is really limited and never caught on. Its basically the step between sms and mms but the slider doesn't have mms.

If WAP isn't offered at all, then it may not be possible, Verizon has their own WAP servers to use while Virgin Mobile accesses WAP through Sprint PCS Vision, because they are on the Sprint PCS network, chances are you are out of luck for MetroPCS, unless they are on a different provider's network, such as Sprint.

they use their own network I believe

yep. I know that with Metro's (colour)RAVE you can send ringtones and wallpapers to each other.

I guess that means the only way to get free ringtones and pics is by spending 50 bucks on a data cable. That would probably be worth in the long run, but all I really wanted were 2 or 3 ringtones and pics so I might just purchase them over BREW instead.

Oh well...pretty disappointed.

I read for 4 hrs on these helpful threads yesterday before i headed into work. I have a Slider with MetroPCS in california.

I entered the free Wap addresses/ports for my UPLINK.B settings, (Was unable to change my UPLINK.A because of the unknown security code) and it worked! it sometimes takes a few tries, but usually only 2, and the browser opens up, asks for me to set my homepage, and i am able to go to wap.yahoo.com and browse the news, check my yahoo.com email and even play games.

my friend also has a slider with GhettoPCS and i TRIED to setup his also, but his UPLINK.A doesn't have a password, and it had data entered in it (like ip: 10.3.2.1 or sumthin) so i overwrote all of his UPLINK.A&B data with the IP's/Ports from the free WAP gateway, and his doesn't work didn't have enough time to sit down with it, so maybe it will, hell it should, cuz mine does!

now to find WAP sights with downloadable games/images/tones

(Atleast until my data cable comes in)

I've been trying to get mine to work, how did u exactly configure your browser and uplinks, you think I can get the IP u used for uplink B, and also your browser setup?

I also own a slider in the bay area, but mine stays on the sending screen for a while then disconnects, so can I get some help? At first they told me that Metro PCS don't have them set for going online, but if we can access their @metro shiat, why can't we go anywhere else?

Man and I thought I was the only one on howardforums with a metro. "plop plop , fiz fiz : oh what a relief it is!" So about that whole wireless browsing....... I have the cdm8900 through GhettoPCS and I can get into my AP1-Ip, AP1-Port, AP2-Ip, AP2-Port. But all the Ip's I have tried don't work either. Also the menu right before the AP1-IP screen gives me 3 UP links, so which one(s) am I suposed to change (there are a total of 12 different options possible to configure!) SOMEONE PLEASE HELP US!!!!!
