Synchronizing a T616

Hey,
Just got a T616 and am trying to synchronize it with my Dell Laptop running XP Pro. The laptop sees the phone but the XTNDConnect software from the Sony Ericsson website keeps saying that Outlook needs to be the defaul mail server. Outlook is the default mail server. If I go into the option tab in XTND, and try and change anything in the sources I get a bizarre error message with symbols in it. Anyone know what is causing this or have a suggestion for a better synch program out there? Thanks!
