LG VX6000 MIDI Ringtone filesize too small?

Normally in order to get ringtones on my VX6000, I just email them as an attachment to number@vzwpix.com and save them. This works without fail with every MIDI I've tried, except for this :

I want to use a very short MIDI (about 300 bytes, <2seconds) as a text msg alert. When I try to save the sound, I get "Error Save Sound" and it won't save so that I can use it as a ringtone. I have duplicated this error with two different ringtones. It doesn't happen with any other (longer) ringtones I have emailed to the phone.

I don't have the data cable (yet), but I have been informed that it DOES indeed work fine if you transfer it with the data cable.

Any workarounds (besides editing the MIDI to make it longer, which I am about ready to do)?
