what software will allow me to import a CSV file with my old phone book in it? Please let me know.

The only way to do this is to covert your .csv file to a .pbk file that the Cellebrite device (available at most Verizon stores) can read and then upload to your phone.

The tech at the store will need to connect the Cellebrite device to the computer and load your .pbk file into the UME Phonebook and then transfer it to the device. Then they can hook your phone up to the Cellebrite and push the phonebook from the device to your phone.

I tried everything else and this was the only working option.

The .pbk file is a text-based file and can be created in Notepad.

Here's the basic format...

Entry #,"Name","General Number","Home Number","Mobile Number","Extra Number","Fax Number,","Other Number"

Every row needs to have 7 commas in it...if you don't have information for a particular field you must enter "" (two quotes with nothing between them) just remeber to seperate each field with a comma.

I have also attaced a demo .pbk file to this email...it's not very difficult to do.

Best O' Luck !

Great thanks. I actually discovered on my own that PC Sync can back up a csv file of your current phonebook. I just created one entry and then backed it up. I was not able to open any other CSV file but the one PC sync saved. So I simply opened that one in Excel and put copy my information from my csv file and then opened that file in PC Sync....worked just fine. Uploaded to the phone and I now have all my contacts.

Thanks for your suggestion though.

I was really hoping to avoid the hassle you guys went through by exporting my Outlook contacts into my phone, but now that I have Mobile Office from Verizon I find that I have to use a .csv file. Has anyone done this yet?

Also, is it safe to run some of the other appz with the drivers from mobile office?

FWIW - that's all the Mobile Office does - sends and retrieves a .csv file to your phone. The modem works OK, though. Oh, yes, and the mobile office box says "for Audio Vox 8400 & 8900".

Thanks.

I didn't do anything with outlook. I already had a .csv file from my old phone book and my mobile office software from verizon for my old CDM-9500. That software had saved my old list into a .csv file. I used pc synch to get that file onto my new phone. I did this by creating a dummy phonebook entry and then backing it up in pc synch. I then opened that .csv file and copy and pasted my contacts from my .csv file into the appropriate fields...then I opened that file up in pc sync and uploaded them to the phone. Pc sync will not allow you to open any .csv file just the ones it backs up. So you NEED to edit that specifc file and save it in the same directory with the same name....

I'm glad you mentioned about using the same .csv file. I don't know why they are being so restrictive, but if that's what has to be done then I need to do it.

Again, thank you.

On ebay I was able to purchase:
"Audiovox OEM 8900,8410,8400 Mobile Office Kit"
from dans_cellular_accessories (Just do a search on 'Audiovox OEM 8900 mobile office kit').
It includes the cable & CD with QuickLink Mobile & QuickLink Mobile Phonebook. The phonebook allows imports of .csv files.

Software is actually from Smith Micro

I then use BitPim to download photos I take.

I'm guessing that it is copyrighted.
So, sorry, don't feel comfortable posting it.
