Just got news from Aalborg/DK where the S40 is produced:

Production of the S40 is planned to stop in week 43 (end of October).
Software 9.0.0 is final, i.e. there will be no more updates (except a version 10.0.0 only for Mexico).

bad news, BTW, Can we upgrade to 10.0.0? I am not in Mexico

We can't. As I said: it's only for Mexico. The "improvements" (maybe only an updated operator list or similar) probably won't be of much use elsewhere.

just as 8.0.0 only for Canada?

To my knowledge 8.0.0 was only for Poland.

I actually just got my phone back from Siemens (USA) and they threw v.9.0 on it. I posted earlier describing what caused me to send it in for repairs - a reset that wiped out WAP settings/features. Frank mentioned this to be a sheer case of bad luck but it DOES happen..so watch it and good luck.

Frank, I noticed that my phone now emits a high pitch sound when the display is lit. This is the third S40 I've owned and the first one also had this. It works fine and the sound isn't really much of an annoyance - - it disappears as soon as the backlight switches off. I was just wondering if this is another one of those 'bad luck' scenarios or something that may prompt me to send it back to Siemens later on.

Thanks!

All S40s I have seen so far (quite a few) had this high pitched noise when the backlight is lit. Seems you had bad luck again with an exceptionally good sounding S40 being replaced by an S40 with the standard noise...

Hahaha! Hey, as long as the bad luck keeps me alongside those without troubles, I don't mind! =)

Thanks man...
