T616 Unlocked but GPRS won't work!

I bought an AT&T phone *unlocked* and switched to Cingular. I have spent two weeks jerking around with Cingular Techs and it's got nowhere.

The signal is good but the "data" portion seems to still be locked. ALl it does is tell me I have an invalid user name and login.

Voice and Text work just fine. AT&T told me it's their policy to NOT give out the unlock codes so they wouldn't help.

Will Flashing with the Cingular software even work??

One frustrated chick... I live in Milwaukee where there is nothing but beer and a whole lot of stupid useless people.

Please help!!

i think you must first configure your phone with the cingular GPRS settings before you can go on wap with your phone. Since you got your phone from At&T, i assume that your phone is STILL using AT&T's GPRS setting, which will not work =)

All you have to do, is simply find the correct settings and enter em. Try the cingular forum, i'm sure someone will point you to the right direction.

Thanks for the tip but been there and done that. Actually got a real tech on the phone and tried all the "new" GPRS settings, then Cingular's Data dept. reported a system outage. This was Friday...

Neither settings, the GPRS or the "dial-up" (CSD?) back-up will work, it connects to the server then gets rejected over the login and password. I've verified 6 different ways from Sunday (over the last 2 weeks) that they are typed in correctly with Cingular CS and Technical Reps.

I earn a living as a programmer so I'm not a "technical illiterate". Signal is there, hits the server and then says "Wrong User ID, password" on the GPRS settings. The CSD gets to "Verfiy" and then reports an error telling me to contact my WAP provider.

I've all but given up hope. I don't know if Flashing it with the Cingular software will help or not. I have a difficult time thinking it's the actual phone hardware since it recognizes the signal and forges a connection. That smells like a firmware conflict to me...but this is new technology for me so I am guessing.

If anyone else has dealt with this, please lend a hand!

did u try logging in with user/pass left blank?

and r u sure its using Cingular GPRS/CSD settings and not your legacy ATT ones when connecting?

Hey cheesehead. I am on the other side of the cheddar curtain, in Chicago, and am equally frustrated with Cingular. My SE T616 will communicate and contact the web. However, When I pair it via bluetooth to a T2, I cannot configure the T2 to reach the internet. I have called 611 three times and each time get slightly new info. I still have no carrier according to my device. I see the bluetooth connection is in effect and see the PDA directing the telephone to dial the number that Cingular told me to use...nothing! I will post if I ever get a result.

use GPRS instead of CSD, otherwise it wont work unless u pay your provider more.

I have the same problem. I even bought the phone from cingular. WHen I connect using my MyWirelessWindow.com userid and password i get a GPRS request rejected message on the phone. Cingular tech. seem to have no clue.

I actually got in touch with a real cingular rep who had me delete all of the AT&T presets and add the Cingular settings from scratch one by one. Everything has been working steadily ever since.

My best advice is to call Cingulars customer service and DEMAND to speak with a Tech. It took me two weeks, but I finally got a hold of one who actually knew what they were talking about and got me up and running.

Good luck all and if I can help let me know!

A few questions

1. Last time I called cingular they said I need the Quick Link software (which is from Cingular) to do what I am doing. Is that true? I am using the Dial up networking wizard that came with the phone to create the network connection. Is this what you did? The software costs $40. I don't want to shell that money out if i don't need to.

2. What did you ask for to speak to the tech? Something specific like "I want to talk to a GPRS specialist" or what? I suggest do not want to tick the person answering the phone

3. What speeds are you getting from this connection?

4. The change in configs were all on the phone or do we need to reconfigure things in the computer.

Thanks for the help.

I finally got a tech on the phone and she told me that Cingular did not support blue tooth. AARRRGH I finally got her to talk a little and she gave me diffrent settings from the previosu person and it still did not work. If you would't mind, what settings were you given?

I have not tried the bluettoth technology yet. I just got my phone to connect ot the internet on it's own.

Are these the settings you are looking for?

Your post seemed to be more about bluetooth connectivity.

Hey gang,

just bought a t630 (which is close enough to the t616 as far as this thread goes)

I also am having internet connectivity problems...

have a cingular blackberry, and also a cingular s307

the s307 can connect to the net via gprs...

when I enter the same settings in the t630, I cannot access the web, I get a "communication error" or the like...

if you all have been successful in getting the t616 onto the net, can you please share the process in which you did so?

thanks!

Bill
