Flashing banner gone when idle - but not when call incoming

Hope it's not obnoxious to start a new thread for this, but I feel like I'm the only one for whom the Verizon Wireless banner fix isn't fully working, so here goes...
Here's the deal: Following instructions from mentalbob and apollosmith (thank you both, by the way), I was able to stop the banner from flashing back-and-forth on the sub LCD when the phone is idle. However, when I get an incoming call, the display still toggles back-and-forth -- between caller ID and a blank screen.
Anybody know what I'm doing wrong? Or does this fix not address the caller ID issue?
I'd really appreciate it if someone would take a look at my edited eri binary file -- which is at the bottom of the following thread page, in a zip file...

... and help me figure out how I can get this to work. Note that the file has been revised to flash ONLY when roaming, not when on Verizon's network or extended network.
FYI, my phone is an 8600, and I used a DIC-8300 cable and BitPim version 0.7-test 7. As instructed, I clicked on view filesystem in BitPim, hit the little plus sign, expanded the tree to until I saw the eri files, and overwrote the first one with the modified one.
Anyone have any ideas? Thank you SO MUCH in advance.
Also: In case this can't be fixed, could I theoretically make the phone not flash at all be simply deleting the eri file? And if I did, would I still get the little triangle to show up (or flash) when roaming (or in extended network)?

maybe you used a eri_binary file from a 8900? i don't even know if that makes a difference. just overwrite it with your backed up copy and wait till someone with that knowledge answers you. i unfortunately, can't help you.

Many have said the eri is identical for the two phones, and apollosmith, who revised the file for me, is an 8600 user (I think). However, perhaps on the 8600 the solution doesn't address the caller ID during incoming calls.
Anyway, it's still better than the usual eri, so I'm sticking with it until I (or someone) can figure out how to fix it.

Yep... the caller id will still flash between a blank screen and the number on the outer LCD. I'm still trying to find a solution for this, but haven't had any luck. It seems to flash at a faster pace than it did before the new ERI file, but I haven't yet figured out how to get rid of it altogether. If Verizon could get it's act together and release a patch or if someone that has Verizon fix the flashing ERI could let us know what files have changed and how, then we could probably figure it out.

Odd -- seems like this only happens on the 8600. Users of the 8900 seem not to have the flashing during incoming calls.
Would the back-and-forth flashing of the caller ID go away if I delete the eri file completely? And if I did that, would the triangle still show up to let me know if I'm roaming? I was hoping to have the eri give me a nice, loud head's up when I'm roaming, but I can live with the triangle (and roam alert).

Anyone else out there have any insight?
Perhaps at least someone can answer this: Can I safely just delete the eri file from my 8600, and if I do, will I get the normal roaming triangle (when appropriate), without the flashing banner?
Thanks.

I dunno if deleting the eri would be safe but when i originally got the 8600 it had a non eri prl loaded on the phone. unfortunately i needed the added coverage so i had to update the prl. but when i went into a roaming area i did get the roaming triangle. so theoretically if the eri wasn;t there i would bet it would still work

I think I may try deleting the eri file, although I'm a bit nervous about it. I have it backed up on my computer, of course, but what if my phone sizzles to its demise when I restart it without the eri loaded on it?
Another problem I have -- it's just about impossible for me to test whether roaming indicators are working when I roam. The problem is I'm never roaming, other than when I travel, and I don't even have an easy way to get to an out-of-network spot to check it out. (I live in NYC, which of course is well-covered by Verizon, and I have no car.) It would kinda suck for me to be on vacation when I discover that I'm not being alerted about roaming.
Still, might give it a shot. Anything to bash the flash.
Again, if anyone out there has additional insight about deleting the eri file, it will be much appreciated.

I wouldn't delete it, but if you decide to good luck!

Has ANYBODY out there tried to do this? I mean, can an 8600 live without an eri file?

I'm with DHL - I wouldn't delete it. Even if the phone works, I don't think it will fix the flashing caller ID. The ERI file is almost entirely the text that displays on the banners, but there is some other things in there that I'm not sure what they do. If you absolutely can't live with the flashing caller id, give it a try and let us know. In short, I'm on my third phone and I don't dare try it for you.
