Greetings all,

I have just subscribed to sprint service and purchased a scp-5500 phone. I was originally skeptical, having sprint service in the past, and switching to a gsm system for better voice quality. I now find that the voice quality of the new scp-5500 is, in my opinion, sub par as compared to a GSM system like t-mobile or cingular. Does anyone know if I should try a new phone (possibly defective)? The phone crackles and pops excessively using both the earpiece, and the speaker (with full signal).

I love the phone/features, the pricepoints of the plans btwn t-mo and sprint are similar, coverage in my area is similar.....but I don't think I can deal with the sound quality.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

If your phone "crackles and pops excessively" I would exchange it for another one. There is probably something wrong with it. I have no such issues with my VM4500.

Whatever software is on your phone is the latest. There hasn't been any upgrade released.

Turn the volume down for your earpiece. The default volume level is kind of high and makes it distort.

As has been posted many times on this forum, there are some known problems with the 4500 - sound quality and dropped calls. THESE ARE NOT NORMAL. Take your phone back if you experience these excessively.

I personally haven't experienced either problem.
