my cdm 8900 has locked up. I used bitpim to go into the filesystem and replaces the ERI_binary.bin with the file from this post, http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...threadid=343996 ...

All the file has in it is this "Ãb 0 @ A B C D RoamingE åä" maybe the file was corrupt or something but, i replaced the file with that one, left the ERI_binary2.bin file alone, disconected phone and rebooted.. NOW all i get is the verizon wireless screen and the ballons on the subscreen... and it plays the startup song over and over every min or so.... I can not access the phone now with Bitpim to replace/restore the files because the phone will not turn on fully i guess. everytime i try i get a malfunction with the hardware devise usb port and that it will not work properly. If anyone has any clues please help me..

And yes i took out the battery to see if that would help... same thing...

think it's time to bring it back to verizon...

something you did was wrong because I used that same file and followed the directions exactly and mine works fine. i'm guessing maybe you didn't hit the + or - sign a couple of times to get rid of the weird characters showing up.

The file is a binary file... the fact that you pasted what was above means you probably weren't using a hex editor to view/edit it. If you saved the file with a text editor and then uploaded it to your phone, then that would very likely cause your phone to lock up.

Just right click on the web link, and save it directly to disk without viewing the contents as opposed to directly clicking on it, loading it in notepad, and saving it from there.

You can view the file in a text editor, but it is just a bunch of nonsense characters, as you posted above. Just don't edit or save the file with a text editor. If you want to edit the file (you shouldn't need to), download a hex editor. There are several available at download.com.

Wirelessly posted (Audiovox cdm8900: CDM-8900/T10 UP.Browser/5.0.5.4 (GUI) UP.Link/5.1.2.3)

Learn, before you burn! If you do not understand or comprehend data file structure and binary/hexidecimal code, Dont fool with it! Either take a programming class at your local community college or get someone else who knows to do it for you.

You don't get it....

Do NOT open the file, simply overwrite the file on the phone filesystem with the one you download. You do not have to open the file to overwrite the one on the phone. Simply select the file you want to use to overwrite the phone data with.

If you don't understand what I'm talking about it's best you do some more research, otherwise you're very likely to wreck another phone.
