There are alot of various apps available for the 3650...
most of the common ones we have all used but there are some applications out there that alot of us still wonder about. I wanted to start this thread to post mini reviews on applications. Got a new app or maybe you wanna comment on an app you've been using for while? Share it with the room to help people decide if they want and/or need the app or just enlighten others on the pros & cons

Posted by: nemik

nice idea. ok mine will be very mini.

photographer 2.02 is great, takes nicer pictures than the built-in camera, zoom is decent quality as well. but it takes longer to save the picture than on the builtin app.

seleQ and FExplorer are both great. i used FEexplorer and decided to try seleQ and both are good. FE is just cheaper. i keep selQ on now cuz i'm too lazy to take it off and it works just as good.

irRemote is cool too. i'm waiting for them to get toshiba supoort, but they work with almost everything else. the range isn't that good, and you may as well push the buttons on the TV for how close you have to be but its still neat to play around with. i also heard that they will update it for the 3650 to switch the interface 90 degrees since its IR port is on the side, good idea!

Dope Wars is my favorite game on my phone. its not very exciting for most people. you are a dealer and start out with some money and you buy drugs at low prices and travel around and sell them at higher prices. the point is to end the game with the most money. cops come after you, as do gangsters and such. it is not 3d, just a word game basically, but for some reason i LOVE playing it. great fun for me.

netfront is the best HTML browser i found so far. i like it better than doris browser. it supports javascript and displays things very nicely and loads fast. great program.

cocktail is a cool app as well that has about 165 (i think) different recipes for cocktails and shots. it has detailed preparation instructions and ingredients. and can be sutomized to show only the drinks you can make with the ingredients you have and such. it is great for impressing people.

handycar is a app to keep track of milage and gas usage, oil checks and such. i don't have much use for it. but you might.

handy dates is useful. it is linked with the built-in calendar on the phone and lets you keep track of birthdays, anniversaries, meetings, and you can set it to sound alarms a few days or few hours before. very cool and useful. lets you put in the year of birth too so you know how old the person is/will be. i like it.

handy shopper is also useful. it is a program that lets you select what you need from a list of common items, and lets you create your own items too. keeps track of quantatity needed as well, and i use it when i go shopping, so i don't hit myself for forgetting to buy something.

well thats all for now but as i get more i'll report them on this thread.

Hey that was informative thx!! Anyone else? (IMO this should be stickied... what you all think?) Anways... I am still very new to the 3650 and haven't tried that many apps yet but I have to say I love seleQ. Although I had a problem with it the new vsn definately works great. Simple program to use and lots you can do with! It makes changing the annoying Op Logos very simple. I haven't used FExplorer yet but from what I hear they are similiar but seleQ is easier to use so for a noob to the 3650 like me should find seleQ easy to use.

The space doubler app is great aswell. It compresses really well. I didn't think it would really make nuch of a difference but when you see the chart of space saved it makes you think wow I am glad I got this. Came in handy when I was using the 16Mb card that came with the fone. I use a64Mb card now but with still use the space doubler.

I didn't like the IR remote at first but getting used to it. The range isn't the greatest but it's fun especially if you're somewhere and wanna prank around and uop the volume or turn a tv off. I did it at a pub the other day and made people think their TV was on the fritz.

I'll load some new apps this week so when I do I will post the results

Posted by: Dieselis

WOW.. I didnt know they made drug wars for the 3650... Im an addict.. I play on my palm and my pc whenever I get the chance. Hey punkserb you think you can email me that along with netfront? If you can my email is Dieselis@aol.com. Thanks in advance

Posted by: Synncere

I installed Camcorder pro, DopeWars & Mobile Fax today...
The camcorder app is great!! Picture quality and sound are amazing!! I didn't like dopewars too much as my fone kept freezing or there would be really long pauses for no reason. I didn't get a chance to try mobile fax at all everytime I opened it it idled for maybe 10-15 seconds then gave me a timed out message.

Posted by: Synncere

Not to be rude guys but places to get these apps have been posted in there... I wanna keep this thread dedicated to reviewing apps so people can decide if the app is worth their time or not

Posted by: porktree

SmartLauncher - a system menu replacement that also includes a task manager. You can have custom desktops from the menu and some other things. It runs at startup, and there are 'skins' for it, you can also download a skin editor and create your own. It reports on memory and storage and battery use. I tried it for about a day, it slowed down access to the menu, you'd get a 1-2 second hesitation as it loaded the wallpaper. That alone was enough for me not to use it. The backgrounds under the icons also turned out to be annoying, difficult to read and looked crappy. I give this software 2/5 stars.

Taskmanager- A pretty simple app, that lets you assigne shortcuts to the dpad, and shows you running apps and memory use. It also let's you compress memory. I am still using it. It's main downside is that it doesn't always launch the dpad application. Nine times out of 10, when I press down, SeleQ comes up, but sometimes it doesn't. Not annoying enough to dump the software, but annoying never the less. 3/5 stars.

Extended Profiles - Additional setttings to base off of a profile, like key lock times, backgrounds, soft key associations. You can also schedule profiles to go on and off at certain times, or to be on for just so many hours (great for going to a movie and setting your phone to silent for 2 hours). The keylock alone is worth the cost of this software. Use this with MiniGPS and you can set a profile based on location (work, home) and have the desktop wallpaper change, along with the ringtone etc. This is great software, 5/5 stars.

guys as much as i'd like too, i simply can't send all the programs to all of you, just takes a lot of time. and i don't wanna be biased and send to some and not to others. so here is what i'll do, if you ever request an app, i'll send you my tutorial on how i got them and from where and it is SO easy all of you will be able to do it.

OK, PMs sent. and if you guys would be so kind, next time someone requests an app, just PM them what i PMed you, just copy and paste it. i find myself doing many of them now!

Well I had an idea... Im going to make this idea a new thread as well, I have a domain, and a reseller account with plenty of extra space and bandwith, its also wap enabled... If anyone was willing to register a domain dedicated to 3650 Software and help me develop it, I would be more than willing to host it... We can also use my personal domain www.jniamehr.com, since it doesnt have anything on it anyways... I was thinking about doing something like www.s105.com on the site there is wallpapers, games, apps, information, how to's and the possibilities are endless... Anyone in? Email me at thesmack@optonline.net !

Hey buddy read the rules next time... regardless of what forum or thread on HoFo ... no threadjacking.

A thread was designated for reviews and you switched the subject by plugging your site and ideas for it... that is a threadjack.

Doesn't matter what or who's thread it is that is a no no on HoFo. You also started a fresh thread with the same info on it so there was no need to post what you did here.

Now you know... and next time you break a rule you won't be here so let it go and go about your business and enjoy the forums. Just be respectful of policies. Nuff said

Can we stop the fight and get some more COOL reviews of COOL apps!

Posted by: Roy

OK,

I have used it, but man, this is not at all the thread for this!

PLEASE dont put crap here! Good reviews please...

Posted by: Synncere

Since I started this thread as a review thread I was wondering if any of you have used the app: "Phone Secure" If so was it easy to install or were there problems? I am thinking of getting it just for kicks thought it would be neat.

Also I am planning on getting the following games and was curious if any of you have used them before and if so how are they? If you can post a mini review I'd appreciate it if none of you have used them and can't post a review no big deal.

1) New Skool Skater
2) FIFA 2003 for N3650
3) SWAT-Sniper
4) GTracing
5) MVRpool
6) SnowBoardX
7) Steel Warrior

I recently installed "Prince Of Persia", "Splinter Cell" & "Rayman Golf" the other day... all fun to play no install problems or trouble with the fone freezing. I suck at prince of persia lol but am addicted to the golf game. All 3 are fun games to play when you're bored I totally reccomend them to anyone who is wanting to install a few games on their fone.

Posted by: Roy

Hey Synncere... What would you do without me????

Anyways:

I suck at FIFA, I always loose so I'll just tell everyone its a bad game!
SWAT is cool, but the control of the aim is not ideal... because it isnt a "fixed" movement (I think it tries to simulate a human holding a gun, so when ou press left, it isnt always moving the same ammount), so it is difficult to aim and shoot correctly.

About phone secure I think you know the answer....

I have it now... I think it might come in useful some day! works perfectly...

Posted by: Jax826

Anyone tried the "answer machine " application or hany safe application?
How was it? any problems with the programs ?

And sorry for all the troubles that I caused before.

Posted by: Roy

Jax, dont sweat it... Just dont do it again or we'll kill you!

Anyways, I havent tried that one, but heard it doesnt work on the 3650... I tried Mobile Assist, but it was really complicated to use... (Record greeting in Recorder, then go into program, navigate through forms to find an empty one, etc...) (the program didnt have a list of "active answer machines")

-In case you dont know, this mobile assist allows you to set a different greeting based on phone number-

Posted by: Jax826

oh? So the answer machine applicatino will only work on 7650??
damn!!! I was thinkng of getting one!!
HOw about handy safe? Anyone tried it?

Posted by: Roy

Please post more info, I havent used that one...

Posted by: Jax826

handy safe is an application like the e-wallet in nokia 6100 and 7250. You can store your personal info in there and lock it.
I always used that when I was using my nokia 7250

Posted by: Roy

Well, i dunno... why dont you get it and tell us?

Posted by: Jax826

I can't get any free ones, so that's why I want to ask before I buy it^^

http://nokia-3650-software.epocware...y_Safe_Pro.html

Posted by: Roy

hhhmmm... I got it!

No demo

Posted by: nemik

jax, handysafe is on that site in that PM tutorial i send you. i haven't tried it. but MGS karting is cool! especially when installed on the MMC!

phonesecure i had and deleted. first because it seems to take up some amount of RAM, so neither opera nor netfront would work, and also because i realized that if my phone got stolen, it would be a thin chance that my friends will be there from whose phones i can send SMSs.

Posted by: Synncere

Thx for the feedback Roy

Posted by: jtatum

Someone mentioned extended profiles. Fantastic product. Not only can you change the color scheme, background, key lock times, etc but you can schedule profiles to enable automatically, something Nokia should have put in a long time ago.

pExtender is a stupid but must have app. It enables the other three color schemes that are built into the phone but disabled by firmware (I guess some service providers wanted their own private color schemes. I'm thinking Orange here ).

Finally, miniGPS (from the same people as Extended Profiles) is really neat. It watches what cell tower you are registered with and can do a few things when it notices you are on a certain tower or group of towers you have defined. For instance, I have a group setup for home and one setup for work. When the phone is registered with any of the cells in the home group, it switches to the normal profile. (Thanks to Extended profiles, the keypad is set not to lock, the background changes, bluetooth gets enabled, etc). When I leave the home group, the phohe switches to the outdoor profile (enables keypad lock, different background, rings). Very cool app.

Posted by: Synncere

jtatum thanks for the mini review on the miniGPS app... I think I'll check that one out!! I just played the following games on my 3650:

FIFA 2003/GT Racing/ Snowboard X/SWAT Sniper

All great games... no probs or crashes on the install.
Fone doesn't freeze when you play them either. Fun to play...
If you're the kinda person that likes to play games on the fone to kill time I would definately get these... besides Splinter Cell these have to be the funnest games I have played (great for my breaks at work lol )

I am trying to find an English vsn of MIB2 so when I do and I install it I'll let you all know how that goes.

I am thinking of getting the spread sheet program for the 3650?
Anyone use it? If so pls post your thoughts on it...

I have just tried out the "extended profiles ", "handy safe" and "handy clock". All I can say is......Fantastic!!!!! These applicationis are a must!!!! Extended profiles is exactly as jtatum described!!

Handy safe is an application similar to e-wallet on nokia 6100 & Nokia 7250, however, it has more features. You can store any kind of personal info and there will be a little label beside it. For example, if you stored your visa card # , there will be a little visa card label beside the number. This application is very useful for people who do a lot of internet shopping/online banking.

Handy Clock is also a very cool app. It shows time and date in your home city and in two other cities of the world. You can choose these cities from the list in the built in Handy Clock program, or add the new ones. In addition, it allows you to set several different alarms on your clock with different repeating type.

damn!! I love my nokia 3650 now!!!!

Posted by: wuduhel

i don't have time to read this whole thread so i'm probably repeating someone.

anyway, another great feature of Extended Profiles is it allows you to change the alarm tone of the alarm clock and calendar alarms. I couldn't stand the default tone so I found this to be a really nice feature. Only weird thing is you can't use a WAV, only MIDI.

Posted by: iMike

Regarding the pExtender...after you install the app and unlock the colors red, pink and orange you can dump, erase, remove the app and the colors will stay unlocked in your phone!! Hope this helps ^_^
I Love my N3650 too!!

Posted by: Jax826

How come I can change my color scheme without installing any extra applications? Is it because my 3650 is bought originally from NOkia and not thru any service provider?

Posted by: fatlard

Task Manager-Works pretty much like the Windows version. It lets you kill task that you no longer need. Sometimes with N3650 won't let you know what is running and you need this to kill the apps and free memory. Must have.

Space Doubler- Auto compress and decompresses your programs that you do not need. This is a good one. It does slow down your app load time.

Torch - Turns your N3650 to be a flashlight. kinda cool

Doris - Replaces your existing browser that lets you browse html pags

Netfront- HUGE! Man.. this thing uses a lot of memory

Photographer -This program lets you zoom. It is not a optical zoom. It a digital zoom. So the zoom just make the image a little more blurry. You can't shortcut to this program.

CameraFX- Lets you zoom and put mask on your picture. I don't like it because you can't save pictures to MMC.

Bitstorm-Arcaniod

Wilpalm stack up -Tetris

Triple Pop -Booble bubble.

Anyone want these software?

how does it turn it into a flashlight???

Posted by: fatlard

It takes puts a whitescreen on the phone. All white. It is ususally enough to brighten areas of my dark room.

Posted by: Synncere

the Torch application is good for those who don't mind using battery power and want their backlight on all the time.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

ok.... let's recap, pple..... this is a great thread (and imho deserved sticky), most of the apps in my phone are there because of this thread.... so let's keep on reviewing....

and please keep the requests of apps at minimal.... like mentioned before.... try yahoo groups... if still can't find it/them then try pm the member... don't just get in the way here and ruin good thread like this....

recap, so far we have the (in some depth) reviews for:

photographer
seleQ and FExplorer
irRemote
Dope Wars
netfront
cocktail
handycar
handy dates
handy shopper
space doubler
camcorder
SmartLauncher
Taskmanager
Extended Profiles
SWAT
Mobile Assist
handy safe
pExtender
miniGPS
Handy Clock
Torch
CameraFX

so that u know u can read back to find out about them and not asking/reviewing again, (i don't understand why don't pple read back in threads??) but feel free to add your comments on what's not mentioned...

-------------------------------------------

for me about SeleQ... i just hate one thing that u can't do "mark all" like in the nokia image(or others) ....to copy/cut all, u need to mark each one manually

other apps i have are:

Handy Expense: it allows u to keep track of the expenses u have.... it records date, catagory, and amount.... the main catagories are pre-defined (such as lunch, dinner, gas, grocery, etc) but surely u can add more of your own..... and it can report to u the total of each catagory for each month

too bad it can't act as a check book and the app should be linked to handycar.... cuz when i fill my car up, i need to put the amount in both app

Rayman Golf: it's an ok game [imho] but many say it's one of the best games u can have on your phone....

see captured pic here: http://my-symbian.com/7650/applicat...dAuto=196&faq=2

it's like most of the old days golf game.... click to choose club, power, and accuracy

Triple Pop: Nokia's game, can be download at nokia's site... ...it's like tetris in a circle where u move the center of the circle to catch the incoming balls of colors... getting the 3 of the same color will change itself to score

Bounce: a must have game.... again from nokia... u control a bouncing ball in each lvl to the end across obsticles without popping it.... most pple have this game, what more do i need to say...

ChessGenius: the best chess games i ever find for my 3650... nice color with different lvl, view, board size.... one of the best looking as well as the AI u can play w/

CellMill: based on Merrelles, Mills, Merels, Nine Men's Morris board game.... ....interesting game, easy to learn but yet require some brain work... ...the point of the game is to get your pieces in a straight line of 3 and then u'll be able to take one of the opponent pieces... the player who has 2 pieces left, loses(obviously 2 cannot form line of 3, so there's no point in playing = end game) ....the game can be played by BT w/ your friend

that's all i have for now.... i tried to install some more games yesterday but they are all crap.... some work and some didn't....

let's see what other games/apps u guys find good/interesting

Posted by: Synncere

Well this isn't in regards to apps but games that I have recently installed on my 3650... I thought I'd give you all my thoughts on them:

Marcel Desailly Pro Soccer: Intalled easily no problems or fone crashes. It's not one of those games that you have to save on the fone memory you can save on the mmc and it works great.
I compared it to FIFA 2003 and between the two I prefer this one. It's alot more fun, much easier to play to than FIFA and more teams to choose from aswell. A great soccer game for anyone!!

Tiger Woods PGA Golf Tour: if you are a golf fan or a Rayman Golf fan that you'll love this game. It's easy to install there are no fone crashes. You can just practise, compete or play a full course on your own. Rayman Golf is like mini golf compared to this game... it's alot more realistic. Perfect game for the golf lover.

Speed Devils: Reminds me of a game I used to play as a kid in the arcades... once again a fun game that's easy to install with no errors. Basically you try to beat the clock by reaching various check points and finishing 3 laps. Everytime you do that you unlock a new course that you can drive. There are little goodies you can pick up along the way like turbo boosts and missiles to shoot cars in your way. A fun race game. Not like GT racer where you are just racing other cars and thats it.

New Skool Skater: This game also remind me of a few games I grew up playing in the arcades when I was a kid. Easy installation with no errors. I had a good time playing this game. Basically on your skate board you are collecting coins/points, there are half pipes, little creatures you have to jump over and/or shoot. It's just a fun game definately worth checking out.

Com2Us Bowling: Well what can I say... if you've ever owned a Samsung S100/105 you know this game. It's a simple bowling game (much better looking on the 3650 then the Samsung I must admit) Very easy to play and alot of fun. Easy on the install and again no errors.

Mid Pacman: What's to say... it's classic pacman. A blast from the past. If you're a fan definately get it. I had no problems installing it and no crashes either.

Moto Racer: I had no luck getting this game to install so that's all I can say about it... but if anyone has been able to install it successfully pls share your thoughts on it.

As you can see I've done my share of gaming recently... hope to install some new apps soon. Once I do I'll post my take on them. Until then see ya in the forums.

Posted by: Synncere

Just curious if any of you have tried Mobile Assist yet? If so please post a mini review with your thoughts & opinions on it. Thx.

Beer Engine

A definate must for the beer lover. It's got a great list of beers aswell as other drinks. If you have used the coctail app then you'll like this app. Beer engine also gives you info on the the drinks alcohol content and if you want to you can also track how much you drink over various time periods.

Anyone who enjoys a good drink or would like a menu of various drinks on their mobile so they have an idea what they want when they head out or just so they know what's in a certain drink then Beer Engine & Coctail are a good combination of apps to have.

Posted by: Bitgod

I'm going to be wanting an app that I can store info in, such as all my passwords, and that will encrypt and lock the info. Is Handy Safe good for something like that, or is that just geared more towards credit card info?

Posted by: ShazamS105

I recently got the 3650 and need some guidance with downloading applications that have been mentioned here. Could you send me a PM please.
Thanks.

Posted by: cal_gecko

Photographer seems like something that I'd love to have.. but do you guys pay the 19.95 for the product? Is there a way to get a 'trial' version? If so, I'd appreciate a PM ...

Thanks!

I LUV THIS FCKNING PHONE IT IS THE BEST PHONE I HAVE EVER HAD.

I LUV THIS PHONE. WON'T TRADE IT FOR ANYTHING. my fave features: speaker, video shooting, and digital camera. bluetooth connectivity, applications.

the reception is good too. wow. i was scared it would be too big, but its not that bad. the jog dial thingie is a bit weird, but totally worth dealing with.

sorry guys, but after a week of use, i'm totally hooked on this phone. i play around with it for no reason, just when i'm bored.

sorry, sounds dorky. i know.

So far I only have Palette Extender, Mp3Player and Screensaver. My screensaver app wants a password now in order for me to use it. So it isn't working right now. Anyone know how to register it so I can get it working again?

I also have an app on my phone that I don't remember installing and don't want to remove for fear of it being important. It's under my App Manager. It's list name is "PsiNT eLib (c)" and "PsiNT Helper." I have no idea where it came from.

IQ - great thinking game, i love it. there are these gems, and a laser. and you have a few mirrors and you must move the mirrors around so the laser beam will hit all the gems. excellent game.

snowboard X - cool game too. you snowboard and jump of ramps to do tricks to score points. its ok.

steel warrior - love this game. MGS makes such good 3d games. this one runs much better than karting though. i often have to restart the phone to play karting, but this one always starts up fine. very fun game.

overdrive - 3d top view racing game. kinda cool but not as fun as karting.

worldclock pro 1.3 - super app. i use it often to check the time when i am calling or SMSing europe so i don't wake them or something. nice useful app . especially if you travel or need times in other parts of the world

Mobi reader - it is an ebook reader and is super cool too. right now i'm reading crime and punishment off of it! it scrolls automatically, and you can even change the orientation (landscape or portrait). excellent book reader, can't beleive i read books with my phone, i am too dependant!

Dashfly - it is a minute manager and seems custom made for t-mobile and such. it asks you when your billing period ends and begins, how many anytime minutes you have, when your nights start, and whether you have unlimited weekend minutes. and it refreshes itself automatically! VERY useful for me seeing as my bill last month came out to $120 (i have the t-mobile 29.99 talk and t-zones plan). MUST HAVE APP.

so that u know u can read back to find out about them and not asking/reviewing again, (i don't understand why don't pple read back in threads??) but feel free to add your comments on what's not mentioned...

Hi, I just want to ask u how do u use "autolock keypad" function in Extended Profiles? I set it as "auto lock" but it still doesn't lock by itself after 10, 15 mins... what should I do to make it work?

Thank you very much!

I had a question about these "answering machine" applications. Does this act as a digital "answering machine" and will save me the cost of voicemail? I had the app, and When I set it up, on my 3650 I could here the greeting when it came on, but you couldn't hear it on the other end (on the end where it needs to be heard the most cause there the ones who need to leave the message).

Any knowlege??

Posted by: Roy

Mobile assist seemed to work, once you got the hang of it, and I think there was one other which also was supposed to work, but I couldnt get it to work (heck, maybe I got the wrong one)...

In theory yes, it could save the cost of VM, but it would use up minutes, and if your phone was off, or out of service, then it wouldnt work....(think on a plane, or something....if you are thinking "I always leave it on".....)

Posted by: Sammy_Sossa

It would be good for me though because I don't even have voicemail so It's not like i'm used to voicemail services and then I get bumped to worse ones, I don't have services to begin with so I would be enhancing my phone.

this thread needs to be bumped for the the 3650 (3600) newbs like myself.

agreed! if "show of your s60 phone" and the "fashchat suggestion box" can be stickies, then this thread deserves one too! c'mon synncere, PLEASE!!!

This app should be "disqualified" solely for the fact one cannot try the software before buying. How pathetic is it that it is necessary to buy a "30-day license" just to evaluate the product. Even a 'crippled' application is a better idea than what they do.

Ok, I will mae this thread into a stickie as per all the requests. I have a question though. Had enyone tried Smart Profiles? I have that on my phone and I want to know the difference between this and Extended Profiles. Other than the fact that you can add different Launcher Skins to each profile is there any other difference?

VERY useful for me seeing as my bill last month came out to $120 (i have the t-mobile 29.99 talk and t-zones plan). MUST HAVE APP.

I have this app on my phone and of course it's a bit confusing. I might have done the setting wrong. I put in anytime. I'm on the get more plan for 39.99 with 600 minutes and unlimited n&w, so should I have put in Peak for the plan type?

Hi,

New to series 60 phone. Are ther any good productivity tools available on series 60 platform that are equivalent to eg. Thoughtmanager for Palm or Listpro for Palm/PocketPC/Smartsphone? Thouse applications are really an excellent & must have PIM, too bad there are not available on series 60 platform.

Thanks.

GeoPod is excellent....if only the 3650 had a better joypad contoller. I'm sure this game will play better on the NGage because of it.

For those wondering....the Answering Machine software requires firmware rev 3.12 or above ( that's why I'm not using it....haven't upgraded yet ).

what is the address of the web page to purchase IR remote for 3650?

This app let two series60 device communicate and share files in many ways, also push-to-talk is possible! And even ciphering communications! I don't have a symbian phone yet, but i'm courious to try this app. Anyone could try it and post impressions? Trial version can be downloaded from site above. Let us know!

I just wish Beer Engine were re-written to American English. It's a nifty little program, but the data is odd for us (at least me) to really use, after all, we don't measure our weight in stones and such.

Where's the gameboy site.......... I'd like to check it out

I've seen a couple of references to Fexplorer but no reviews (unless I missed it, it's a long thread...!) so I thought I'd throw this in. I just downloaded the latest copy (for free) from my-symbian.com, and it is a great app. Not only can you manipulate files, but it's got some cool added features that displace other utilities I've seen, such as setting the operator logo, providing phone and provider/cell info, taking screencaps, or setting the backlight permanently on or off.

Anyways, it's not the end all-be all, but it is a cool little app and it's free, so I thought I'd give it some props... I'm a "noob" to the phone world (beyond using one for calls, that is) and this might be old news, but maybe other noobs might find it useful...

Try as I might, I can't get any cities other than the default 2 (Liverpool and London) to be displayed. Matter of fact, I have no list of cities at all. I know the app works well, if it's anything like the version I have on my PDA.

My opnions thus far:
-Psiloc Screen Saver - LOVE IT

-Psiloc Space Doubler - removed

-Psiloc Extended Profiles - not a huge fan (better served for the P800 )

-FeXplorer - LOVE IT

-SeleQ - removed, no advantages for me over FeXplorer

-TipicME - doesn't work

-TipicME Pro - LOVE IT

-Agile Messenger - still loaded, rarely used :rolleyes2

-CellTracker - kinda cool, novelty

-AvantGo - LOVE IT

-Doris Browser - LOVE IT

-Netfront Browser - removed, memory hog

-Opera browser - removed, doesn't work

-Webviewer - removed, memory hog

-AppMan - LOVE IT

-Coojo - sucks

Posted by: 100thMonkey

almost forgot

-PhotoSMS sucked -

Posted by: 100thMonkey

-Psiloc extended file manager - removed, no adavantage over FExplorer with Appman or Switcher

-Switcher - a very nice freeware if you don't wanna buy Appman, Appman provides a bit more info but Swithcer reports memory which is the main benefit to both apps

My summary:
Good freeware: FExplorer, Celltracker, Switcher, AgileMessenger (Darla likes it ), AvantGo

Good shareware: TipicME pro (currently free), Doris Browser, Appman, Psiloc Sceen Saver

Bad period: TipME basic, Coojo, Netfront, Webviewer, Opera, Psiloc eFilemanager, Psiloc extended profiles, Psiloc space doubler, PhotoSMS, SeleQ (FExplorer does the same thing and its free)

Since you two are the only users of this program that I could find I wanted to ask you a few questions.

I installed this program from Dashfly.com a few days ago and until recently I found it very useful. I'm with T-Mobile and Mobile-to-Mobile minutes are free between T-Mobile customers. Dashfly took this into consideration when developing the program, however there seems to be a minor quirk.

After selecting the numbers from Dashfly Minutes' Call History Log, to be exempt from the deduction from my monthly bucket of mintues, the summary page reflects these changes fine. However, I started to notice that when I get calls from these same 'exempted' numbers (after I have already set them as such) the program does not recognize them as exempt. Does this make sense?

If you have this problem and know how to fix it ... please let me know.

Thank-you,
G

BEMUSED!!! - The greatest app in the world. - controls winamp from your phone through bluetooth. took a few tries to get it working, but when it does work, you can see your whole mp3 collection on your phone, you can select a file, and hit play, create playlists, control volume, and do all kinds of other good stuff. if your like me and you listen to mp3s at night, you can also turn your computer off from your phone as well! so when your done, you just shut off your comp from your phone. im lovin this app.

i believe the program is called AVEC-radio?

anyways, has anyone tried this? i'm not totally sure what it's supposed to do - my question is:

does this prog let you tune in to 'fm' stations, or is it for streaming radio off the internet. if so, i guess it'd be pretty much useless w/o paying for the internet option through your carrier...

Posted by: wshwe

The Goboy Gameboy Color emulator works well as long as you stick with ROMs 1 MB or less. On my 3650 I get an error message when trying to play 2 MB ROMs.

My other favorite app is Doris Browser. ReadM is better for viewing text files than the built-in Notes program.

Posted by: 100thMonkey

did you have any animated GIF's saved for the animation or slide show?

Posted by: bigmike20

yes. but even when i try to use the 'analog' , 'digital clock' or 'big clock' instead, it still doesnt work

Posted by: 100thMonkey

I would probably unistall using the Manager and then try to redownload and install via PC

Posted by: bigmike20

one more thing, when i go through tools->settings->phone->display
i dont have the options besides'text' and'date and time'
i only go and open the app. itself

Posted by: 100thMonkey

that setting doesn't seem to matter so much for App. I have tried both text and date/time, and my screensaver still works

Posted by: 100thMonkey

did you press "yes' when installing the app? there are several times when it is asked if you want to install. Did you not install any part of it?

Posted by: mike27

question to miniGPS users:

does using this app drain your battery faster ? i've tried it for a few days but had to remove it because i often find my 3650 s*cked dry after a couple of hours. maybe the screensaver app isnt helping either because i had it set to the animation mode and i used the matrix brawl scene which takes up the whole screen for 2 hours. this leads me to ask...
which apps are battery hogs?

btw, here's my list of apps: (love em all)

fExplorer
Taskmanager
eProfiles Pro
Camcorder
CameraFX
MP3Go
TotalIR remote
HandyClock
HandyDates
ScreenSaver

am i missing any must haves?

Posted by: fake_ian

mike27-

how big is that .gif animation you're using of 'burly-brawl'? i made a little one of neo hitting smith with a pipe, and it's like 350k.

i'm using an earlier ver. of screensaver from psilock i think i is, and it's contstantly running an animation of 'meatwad' dancing. haven't really noticed and real battery hit.

Posted by: bigmike20

i just tried the Infrared Remote app.
i thought it was better.
by the way did you guys have been able to install this one on your phone. 'cause i cant do it.

https://shop.my-symbian.com/Platfor...Id=0&catalog=20

Posted by: mike27

fake_ian:
mine's a 115kb 176x208 image. don't really know if it was the main culprit for the battery issue. but when i removed miniGPS and changed the screensaver to just the good ol' clock my battery life went back to normal. btw, im using v1.4f of screensaver.

100thMonkey:
lol i checked out that group too and he's really gonna need more than luck to get that group going.

bigmike20:
i've been using it for weeks now (the totalIR remote) and it works great! i've got control of all my remote appliance at home. installing was pretty straightforward, i just used the 3650 PC suite installer.

Posted by: mike27

ow, i forgot to ask, how do i disable automatic keypad locking? not the phone locking one under security setting alright... just the regular left soft key + '*' lock.... i had eProfiles set the autolock keypad to default. but everytime i look it takes like a couple of seconds and it auto locks which is annoying especially when i'm at home and dont need the auto keylock. thanks!

Im curious to know if anyone has found a way to upgrade codes for better compatibility with appliances. I cant get it to work woth my Hughes Satellite Box. ANY responses would be appreciated.

any one have an mp3player app that works right?

Posted by: mike27

100thMonkey:
that would be the autolock you are talking about, the one you'd have to put in your lock code to unlock it. what i was asking about was the keypad lock, the one where you press the left soft key and '*'. for some reason when i installed a program (dont know if its eprofiles) the keypad lock automatically goes on even if i'm reading a message and i leave it for like 30 secs. hmmmnn...

maybe i should just reinstall eprofiles?

Posted by: 100thMonkey

maybe, Psiloc s/w seems to be *****y about getting installed right, I agree try again

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, I dont feel like reading through all of these pages...

the MGS engine for the 3650 works awesome for me. I bought MGS Karting, and its great. So is steel warrior, tetrix, and (not really so great Crab-something. But I never get any low-memory errors like I did with regular games. You can get them from Handango.com for around $13 USD. I think they're worth it.

you can email it to yourself from your PC. just download to your PC and then email it as an attachment to your phone's email or any other POP account that you have set up on your phone.

That is a problem with the 3650. When plugging in the headset, plug it slowly. at sum pt the volume will be loud and clear and no sound leaks thru the speaker.
dont plug it all the way in.

BTW have u tried mp3go?? Its nice too.

Posted by: mike27

here goes my mini review

Apps:

Anti Mosquito - as the name implies... apparently repels pesky mosquitos. dont bother, a waste of battery and space.
AppMan - monitors installed programs and provides lots of info about files and processes running on your phone. works in tandem with Stacker. has an option to release unused memory but a soft restart would be better. a so-so app.
CameraFX - a camera capture software that lets you edit the shot real-time. also has a digital zoom feature, effects and has some masks. the drawback is you cant save it automatically to your MMC.
Camcorder - a video capture app that removes the time limit for recording. you can record for as long as your memory can handle. drawback is that the end file is in the format .eye
eProfiles - an enhancement for the profiles feature. lets you change a lot of things when switching to a profile. like your background pict, left and right selection keys, screensaver, bluetooth, color schemes. loads more! use with miniGPS for a killer combo.
fExplorer - file explorer for your phone. install it now. nuff said.
FlexiCam - a trimmed down camera app that has digital zoom and lets you specify the quality in a more detailed way. faster and much smaller than CameraFX or Photographer.

Handy Clock - a clock app that lets you know what time it is on 2 other citites aside from your own.
Handy Dates - a calendar app that allows you to specify the start year of birthdates, annivs, and others.
miniGPS - an app that determines where you are by basing it on the cell site that you are using. allows you to program events in case you are in this particular location like change your profile, sound an alarm turn off phone etc...
Photographer - a heavily loaded camera app that has effects, masks, digital zoom and others.
pExtender - sick of only blue, green and purple for your color pallete? install this app and you get red, pink and orange! once you've unlocked those colors you can uninstall this app and those colors stay!
Smart Launcher - lets you design your own theme complete with background image, icons, and colors. not that appealing to me because it only changes the menu page and not the entire phone theme.
ScreenSaver - sWeEt app. gives you customized screensavers. animations, different types of clocks, texts, pictures slideshow.
SystemTools - the most notable feature is its 'flight mode'. this enables you to use your phone even without a sim card installed. most useful for playing memory intensive games. note: on flight mode, you wont be able to get messages or recieve calls because naturally, your sim card is not in your phone.
Stacker - if you're running out of space, stacker is for you. compresses installed apps and games. this app won a nokia award, i forgot what it was. nice utility
totalIRremote - fun app. allows you to control your remote controlled appliance through your phone. lets you fool other people by changing channels without them knowing . has support for hundreds of brands.
World Clock Pro - a clock app that tells you the time on another city. the alarm feature is also notable on this app.

even though i have the phone for almost a month now, i didnt fully get to enjoy its ability to install various appz n games untill recently...so far i have the folllowing on my phone:

attack of the killer virus - good game, getting use to it
bounce - im sure everyone haf heard of this game
screen taker - takes shots of ur phone screen
goboy - gameboy emulator
photo ID v 2.04
fexplorer
photographer v 2.02 - i love this app, the only problem i have wit it is that whenever i take a pic, the pic is stored into the mem. card, n wit a alot of pics on already on my mem. card, i haf to go through alot of scrolling to get into the default folder use by the photographer, is there anyway to set the destination of the pics to just like in click into the memory card?

I've been using the 3650 for about 4 months and it is incredible as to what I can do with it. As for some app reviews,

1. The best App I ever installed is Active Mail by Cibenix. I have it check four different email accounts on an hourly basis and it just works great. You set up a schedule for each of the mailboxes you have in the standard messaging program that comes with the phone. It provides a text log of each connection. Also you can set up Notification settings. You can set it to just get headers only, message body only, or message body & attachments. Also, you can select a sound when new mail arrives. One of the neat things is setting up rules for notifications. You can set it to call a certain phone number when mail arrives. You can set this for each mailbox you have. You can then have it repeat these notifications every so many minutes if you wish. Finally, you can set up mail filters based upon sender, subject, set max message size limits, retrieve based upon email priority settings, and decide whether to set these for all mailboxes or just select which ones and setup retrieval rules for each mailbox. This is one cool application for the 3650!

2. Dashfly Minutes - One of the most useful apps I have. There are a couple issues I'm hoping they will resolve in the next replease (separating the detailed log into call/message types; separate included night minutes from weekend minutes). Overall, it is very good and worth the $10.

3. Doris Browser - Best browser I've used for phone-based web. I've purchased Netfront and was disapointed in it's memory requirements and performance. I tried Opera, no way on a 3650. webviewer is just archaic! Nothing about it is worth anything (unless you need to use a Java-based web browser) The included WAP browser actually isn't too bad.

4. DevMan - Memory/Process tool. The best thing about this little gem is I can do a 'soft-boot' of the phone. Beyond killing programs and process threads, and compacting unused memory heaps, this is a must have.

5. The "toy" program I like it Psiloc Extended Recorder. It lets me record stuff and its only limit is how much free space I have on my memory card. I use it in the car while listening to music and recording as I sing along. when I get to my destination I play my singing back and laugh my a** off. I suck at singing, but it is fun! :

Can someone point me towards a Mp3 player application ?

Many Thanks !

Lovin the 3650, Woot !

Posted by: Dutchman

Found and installed Mp3player 2.0, but when I try to register it using the 11-digit code, obtained with *#06#, it will only let me enter about half the code (i.e. 5-6 digits).

Posted by: KillerMobile

Dude, you sure are new. The code you need to enter is the registration code, which you usually get when you........BUY the program! You're trying to enter your IMEI # which will do you no good (that's the number you provide the person you're purchasing the program from which they use to generate the registration code). In any case, stop being so f'in cheap and spend the ten bucks or so a decent app costs.

Cheers!

yep, I figured the code problem out last night after awhile

Haven't even had the 3650 for 24hours, so I'm VERY new to it.

Posted by: KillerMobile

Might as well give my few favorite apps:

Bemused - Though I don't really use it that much, it's still a pretty cool app

Tennis Addict - I became very addicted, even when just playing the trial version, though it's a bit expensive

Ultra MP3 - Great quality app

and of course, I have to plug my own program -

AutoPilot - Leave personalized greetings for different caller, acts as an answering machine, auto-responder, blacklist and more, all for $10 on www.handango.com.

Cheers!

ok, my 3650 is in the mail, and this thread has me even more excited then i was before! one thing i need, that i couldn't find in this thread (although it's probably in here somewhere, i didn' thave an hour to read the whole thing!) is an expense tracker... soemthing along the lines of quicken or microsoft money, where i can enter in my spending, and it will give me a running checkbook style total... also be able to add new deposits, that sort of thing... any ideas? CAN'T WAIT TO GET MY 3650!!!!

PEACE!

At least one is reviewed in the thread.

Here's the first one I found on google.
http://nokia-3650-software.penreade...dy_Expense.html

I also found it on page 4 of this thread by using ctrl F on each page - I believe it's reviewed again on a later page but now you know how to search.

This thread was very helpful - I've been going over the apps found on google, but the users here gave a lot of 1st hand reports exposing the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Thanks to all those who have posted here.

I'm sure I'll have some questions of my own to ask in short order.

till then,

Posted by: Drag'nGT

Since everyone has listed the apps that they have or liked, I'm gonna ask about ones I have no clue what they are or have a problem installing.

Mobile Girl- ???? It won't install so I can't even tell what it is.

Pocket Babes- A different version of the background pin-up girls but it won't install.

My Girls- ???? Another version of Mobile Girl? And it won't install either.

Operator Logo- This one's obvious but I can't find an uncorrupted file.

I can log in and see my friends but some how those online is appeared offline. and when I send a message or they send me message, I can't receive it, neither do they can received it.

Thanks

Posted by: eibowow3650

do u have to pay for the service u get with agile messenger? I dont mean pay for the program, but will ur service provider charge you for the use?

I got Tmobile , and my NOkia 3650 have Agile Messenger, you can IM people with AIM or MSN, using free WAP, also you can check your email through the website,(sometime is really slow, but FREE so I'm not complaining )

I heard that IM+ will do the samething.

Posted by: eibowow3650

so what you are saying is that it acts as a wap and so uve gotta pay for the wap k/b used?

Posted by: gerrylum

I don't know how AT&T works, but if they charge you for kb used for WAP then yes you'll have to pay. T-Mobile users can use the free t-zones to connect and not have to pay anything.

Hey guys, would really apretiate it if someone can tell me where to find these apps.

Go to yahoo.com look for group, in fact this is the link

http://groups.yahoo.com/

search for "nokia 3650 apps" or games, wallpaper, ringtones,...

a list of groups will come up. chose one that have the most members or look good for you, sign up for the group by putting your email address and name and stuff. log in , and download all those apps , games, wallpapers, ringtones you wanted. (BE SURE THAT YOU KNOW WHAT KIND OF STUFF YOU GET) I mean, don't download some stupid APPS that will screw your phone up.

I'm using Multimedia Card reader to transfer my file from the PC to my MMC 16mb come with the phone. I don't know what method that you using to transfer the file in to your phone. so read some more THREAD and you will figure out. Enjoy dude, don't get kill by those wild ANIMALS cuz they don't like to be disturb at night (specially when you got something like Nokia 3650 in your hands )

My list of apps...

ETI Camcorder - Rocks!

Doris browser - Rocks, especially compared to NetFront... what a hog

extended profile - installed, then uninstalled... got the extra profiles, nothing else was needed

IrRemote - fun little toy, use it every once in a while

MP3 player - will use it once my 256 card comes in

Agile Messenger - wicked app! love it.

Agile KungFu game - very nice

PVPlayer - love it, love watching movies full screen

SelQ - does the job

Blacklist - works fine, don't use it very often

Quickword - works well

Stacker - a must

Cocktails - not a bad little app when you're hosting.

Cheers.

A few pages back in this thread, someone asked about the difference(s) between Smart Profiles and Extended Profiles. Just ran across a thread elsewhere which addresses this in detail, with links to each app:

I just bought my 3650 from Tmobile. Can i please get a newbie guide also?

Posted by: natepalmer

I just bought one as well.. can someone send me the newbie guide? Is there a reason this isn't posted somewhere as a sticky?

Anyway.. I'm very excited to play around with this new gadget. I got one for me and one for my wife. (hopefully she will enjoy as much as I will)

Thanks for all the info guys.

Posted by: Spic

I dont know if there is a review for these yet so i will post it anyways

SuperMario - Graphics are pretty good but no sound which kinda sucks. The worst part is that it is very laggy which is why i am deleting it from my phone.

AgileMessenger - Great program if i knew how to use it properly. has all the major MS's in it like: AIM, Yahoo!, MSN, and ICQ. When i first loaded it it brought up someone elses contacts which were pretty wired. And there is no place in the program that i could find that would let me enter any user details. After a while of turning off and on i got a page that asked me to enter the settings for MSN, but not ICQ which is very odd. If i knew how to use this program properly or came with a readme that would make me ant to keep it.

If anyone knows how to use it and post the info here for everyone that would be great, or you can PM me the info.

There's a reason some app authors refuse to provide a trial. Case in point = Soft Magic's "Stop Smoking" ($24.99) . The app itself is fine, but it requires AppForge Booster, which insists on installing in internal memory, to the tune of 1.2+megs. Grrrr. Thankfully, Stacker allows me to compress apps not in use.
======

Nice surprise: an app performing precisely as desired. RingTone Studio for Series 60 ($10) . Easiest procedure found to date to increase the volume of midi's, with just a few taps on the phone itself. You can also fudge around with individual channels within the midi file, whether in memory or on the MMC. Bonus: when you save the revised file, a "(1)" is tacked onto the end of the file name, so as to preserve the original. Easy enough to kill the (1) if desired.

Moov's Minutes Manager is great. I adore the always visible notation re number of peak numbers left for the current billing cycle. While it's fantastic for giving you summaries of assorted categories, it offers zippo regarding details (who called when, etc). Fortunately, it plays quite nicely with the mahhhvelous DashFly Minutes , which offers just about every sort of detail you could ever want, but in an easy-to-digest format. Plus, you can transfer it's log to your BigBoy PC/laptop via IR or BlueTooth. Truly an outstanding combo, which together will set you back $15-$30, depending on coupons and sales.

P.S. Always run a search for> Handango coupon <; I came up with three (stacking permitted!) and had a field day.

Dunno if you tried the app's home site: http://www.fastchat.com . I haven't tried it, but looks like you have to sign up first, even though they offer a trial period. If you click SUPPORT >> Documentation, you'll see one of the PDFs = an "installtion guide".

Good luck!

I just checked the website, I thought that Fast Chat was a program that lets you msg ppl via BT, but apparently it is like a walkie-talkie service. So i guess no luck there

Another program that i was looking into was one that would let me change that background colour from the three that are already on the phone (blue, purple, green). If there is a program that does this, what else does it do besides just change the colour. And is it "free" (wink-wink)

See discussion at http://snipurl.com/4mkk . Seems Stacker is more stable than SpaceDoubler. FWIW, I use Stacker. Very well-behaved and handy.

Is there a newbie guide somewhere here? I haven't been able to find it.

if not could some one pm me and send me the newbie guide?
some of the questions asked earlier in the thread are the same questions I have, but they haven't been answered.

for example, is there any way to designate where to save a picture when you take it? Is there a way to designate that portraits are saved to the phone and full pictures to the mmc?

thanks

You can only coose between phone memory and mmc, not both. Camera > Options > Settings > Memory in use.

For newbie guide (and professional) go to mi site: http://www.angelfire.com/pro/nokia3650/

Posted by: lothos

Wirelessly posted (Lothos: Nokia3650/1.0 SymbianOS/6.1 Series60/1.2 Profile/MIDP-1.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.0)

I have a small app installed called name swap that lists contacts by first name instead of last. Works really well, for who ever asked bout it I found it at wap.my-symbian.com.

Posted by: shadow323

sLauncher- keeps track of memory and ram as well as battery

Phillips camcorder pro- take video as long as your mmc can handle

eRecorder- extended recorder...record sound as long as your mmc can handle

CamFX- take black and white photos and a bunch of other special effects for your camera

Blacklist- the one night stand will bother you no more...lol

screen saver- self explanatory

FS caller- full screen picture caller id

Fexplorer- like windows explorer

stacker- compress memory
those are the apps i currently use which are also the ones i feel are must haves...for extras i have these....ok i just realized how many i have...too many to list...over 36 apps....
