Turn off the "Verizon Wireless" banner

I found an easy way to turn off the annoying banner without patching

1: Menu
2: Settings
3: System
4: Nam settings
5: Set "auto NAM" to yes

Now, both banners will disappear. I haven't been to a roaming or extended service area, so I don't know those banners behave. Also, this is a turn off the banner. Therefore, when you shut down and turn on your phone, the Verizon wireless banner might re-appear. Just do above steps again - it's easier than a patchy work anyway.

BTW: my CDM8600 software version is T055ve2m01_4.235

FYI, the banner indeed should re-appear when you restart the phone -- or, even more annoyingly, whenever you leave or re-enter a service area. (This is what made this useless for me -- I lose service twice a day, when I take the subway.)

Not sure it works at all for the 8900...

Yeah, when I tried it I couldn't get on Verizon's 1X network and was stuck in Extended Network. Not a very good trade-off, I'd say.
