Killing the ANNOYING startup and shutdown stuff

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Wow. This phone is really great, but the startup sound and lame animation (inside and outside screens) have got to go.

I read through everything here on the site and I haven't found anything that would help kill these things, but point me to a url if I missed it.

I picked up the phone today, and I've got a data cable on it's way. But in the meantime, is there anyway to change one or more of the following items?

1. The crappy startup and shutdown sounds
2. The crappy startup and shutdown color animations
3. The crappy startup and shutdown outer LCD animations
4. The crappy animation on the outer LCD on an incoming call. (A little kid.. wtf?)
5. Stop the outer LCD from resetting contrast to level 3 on startup? (I set it to level 5, but it doesn't hold the setting on reboot)

Thanks in advance, I'm looking forward to being a part of this forum!

You can get around the startup and shutdown sounds by putting your phone in silent mode (not etiquette mode). Flip your phone open, then use the volume buttons on the side to put the volume to silent. You phone will not make any sounds, except for the camera clicking sound.

The color animations can be changed. There is a thread or two explaining the process, but I don't have the links saved.

Those hot air balloons and the kid piss me off, too! I wish there was a way to get rid of 'em.

The outer LCD goes to contrast level 3 when you startup because of an intentional bug, I think. The camera took pics that had too much contrast, so what Verizon or Audiovox did was force the phone to go into contrast level 3 for everything on the phone. I have found a way to set the outer LCD to level 5; just hold down the camera button with your phone closed. The outer LCD will begin to show the image from the camera and reset the contrast to level 5. Then just exit camera mode. Or, you could go into settings and change it.

Good luck.
