Am I surfing for free now?

Ooook. I have an 8600 and I'm not with Verizon. I'm with a Canadian company called Aliant. They charge 25 cents a minute for web access (or something like that).
Anyway, I went to http://smithplanet.com/8600/ and followed the instructions to change my ip and port to a free one. I changed my homepage to google. Now, I'm aware that this still uses regular airtime, but thats no big deal because I have unlimited evenings and weekends.
My big question is am I still going to be charged for web access? If I don't use Aliants ip and port can they still tell I'm surfing and charge me anyway?
I am going to be a happy guy if I can surf all I want without their insanely high charge, but I don't know enough about how cell phone web access works and I don't want to go nuts surfing and then be hit with a huge bill. If some of you experts can help with this I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance!

As I understand it, the service provider can't differentiate Web traffic from other data traffic, such as network info, text messages, etc. I don't think you are being billed for the data usage and that only minutes are used. If there's any questions, call your provider or wait and check your bill when it comes.
