I just bought the Q285 on Ebay too, I was just wondering whether it runs on the North American 120V power standard? if not where can I find an adapter?
Any comments on the quality of the phone on the Fido network?
Thanks!

Taiwan uses the same power as north america, and the same plugs, so there is no need for an adapter with our phone. I use mine on Fido, and it is really good, I find the reception better than my T68, it seems to pick up the service better in low reception areas. one thing that is not great is that the phone does not support GPRS, so unfortunatly we can not use WAP on the phone.

once you get the phone, and you figure out anything else, let me know, I will add it to the FAQ. By the way, you don't happen to speak chinese do you?

It took mine about 4 business days to get from Hong Kong, not bad, considering how far that is.

how is the build of this phone? Does it creak when u press it a little hard (i hope u understand what i am trying to ask).
Is the color of the phone painted on the phone, or is it moulded?
How would u compare this phone with other phones as far as reception and rf is concerned?
What about the battery life?
Would u consider this phone to be a really good phone.
Are spare parts for this phone easily available.. for example battery?

Hello,
The build of the phone is pretty good, it does creak a little bit when I dial, but when I am talking on it I do not notice it, it is no where as bad as some Nokia phones like the 3390, that thing drives me crazy. The color of the phone is painted on, but it seems to be pretty tough, I have not scratched it yet (knock wood) I think that the reception on the phone is better than my T68, and about the same as my Motorola P280, it seems to work in places that I had trouble with before, like my basement. The battery life is not spectacular, I get about 3-4 days solid out of the phone, so not bad. I do consider the phone to be a really good phone, it is not full of features, it does not have Bluetooth, or GPRS, but the screen is fantastic, and the polyphonic ring tones are very cool, I always get looks of confusion when my phone rings. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions.

jojowasher...
one thing bad about painted plastic is that if the paint is not of good quality, the paint tends to peel off after a few months.. This is a known issue of the motorolla v66 grey phone. By the way, is the P280 painted plastic, or is it moulded plastic?
Can you tell me about the spare parts for Q285, like batteries.. are they easily available?
How about issues regarding warrenty.. if anything goes wrong with your Q285 (i hope it never happens), where will u send your phone for repair and firmware upgrade ? What is the official website for Tcc Q285?

Hey,
ya, I have seen that happen with a couple of phones that I have had, the TCC seems to be of good quality, but I guess only time will tell. I am not sure about the P280, mine is out getting fixed right now, but it seems to me the color is molded in. As far as accessories, I have been unable to find any yet, except on some Hong Kong websites, and they of course are not in English. As far as warranty goes, I am not sure how I would go about getting support, I believe that I am pretty much SOL as far as that is concerned. I can not find the homepage of TCC, but I bet they do not have an English site anyway. I am pretty sure that the only people that are buying these phones in North America are gadget freaks like myself, that don't consider those kind of things.

how is the reception on this phone and what is the pricing like?
Posted by: jojowasher
I have found that the reception is better than my T68 was, it seems about as good as my P280, and that is great considering it does not have an external antenna. I paid $280 US for the phone from Ebay, I think if you hunt around you can get it for a bit cheaper, and if you know someone in Hong Kong ot Taiwan, you can get it even cheaper (and let me know, I wouldn't mind picking up a couple more!!)
