when 3g data is launched, will the browser on the phone have an increase in speed or will it need some sort of upgrade?

Posted by: SPIRU

I believe the 5150 is 3G voice only, so no you won't see any faster speeds with a data call.

from what i have read, it is 3g data and 3g voice...

Posted by: SPIRU

I haven't heard that before, so who knows.

Posted by: Kane3030

i wish i could remember the places i read it but i have read it...one of the reasons for me deciding to get this phone

i think if 515O is 3G data... the browser should have 3G speed.... 90% sure...

did you try it???

you cant try it yet...the system isnt even up yet

the phones is 3g data capable, but the browser does not support 3g data. it is not known yet if a browser upgrade will be made availible.

Posted by: Kane3030

what would a browser upgrade entail, if it coudl become available?

Posted by: Kane3030

i remember where i read it...it was at cnet.com

a firmware upgrade to your phone, provided that your phone has enough memory to storer the new software. tat is why there are no gaurantees that the browsers can be upgraded

what is your professional opinion with the 5150 and a browser upgrade?

That's cool, I hope an update will be available, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Word at sprint is currently there is no plans for an upgrade for any of the current phones to 3g data. It would require a browser upgrade since the current browsers do not support 3g data at all.

Posted by: Kane3030

would 3g browsers have the different pricing model, the same as using the 3g data connector? or would it continue to use the minutes for the connectivity?

Sprint isn't going to issue any upgrades to their current phones on the market. The Kyocera 2255 is also 3G data "capable" but no upgrades are going to be released for that nor the Sanyo 5150. If you want to actually browse with unfiltered capabilites you'll have to wait till the new 3G data phones are released, Samsung A500, Sanyo 4900, LG 5350, etc...

3g data = 3g pricing, 2g data = 2g pricing
they are not backwards or forwards compatible. If you get a 3g phone you MUST use 3g pricing.

i couldnt afford 3g data for as much as i use my 2g data....im better off then :-)
