Ringing in roam mode, not regular ringer

I've had two problems today, the first is more important:

CDM8900

1. Followed these directions exactly. The banner is gone, thanks, but now the triangle roaming indicator is shown, which I'm fine with except all incoming calls ring in roam mode(several short chirps).
Am I roaming or is it something else?
I did make a backup, but when I try to overwrite eri_binary.bin I receive this error(condensed):

An unexpected exception has occurred.
Please see the help for details on what to do.

I also made a complete backup before I started using the cable, and I recieve the same error when I try to backup the entire phone.

I have read numerous threads on setting up bitpim and using the cable but haven't had any success.

2. Sending images:
I followed these instructions to send backgrounds. After I overwrite the file and restart, the file appears in bitpim but not manually on the phone.

I just solved my image problem, well I didn't directly solve anything, it just started working now.
I still have the roaming problem.
