(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

below are the information from difference thread which explain how to do a firmware update on x70. i did provide these info but gathered them for newbie's convenience

REQUIRED:

1. Computer
2. X70 w/ full battery <-------- of course
3. Data Cable (serial or USB)
4. winmodo program
5. firmware code + language pack

http://praetoria.free.fr/doc/XA70DA30.zip <A30 firmware>
http://praetoria.free.fr/doc/lp70n_v68.zip <Language pack>

thanks to athina for above files

------------------many thanks to allen7 for below info-----------------
1. Install driver for the USB cable.

2. Go to PC's Device Manager and find out which COM port the USB cable is assigned to and set the baud rate to 19200.

3. Start WinMoDo (make sure it's for X70), go to SETTINGS and change the COM Port and BAUD Rate according to your USB cable.

4. There are three boxes on the left: CUST, LP, CODE in green. If you just want to flash FW, clicK on CUST and LP so they becomes N/A and use the browse bottom to locate the A30 FW in your hard drive. Do the same for LP if you want to flash a Language Pack.

5. Turn off your phone then connect it to the USB cable (MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED).

6. Click Start download then press power buttom once. You should see activity in Progress Window and Time starts counting. Just sit back, relax and wait for it's completion.

It takes about 90 minutes for me to update the FW and language pack, so make sure your computer is stable and phone battery is fully charged.

When WinMoDo shows "Download completed successfully", just unplug the phone from USB cable.

It takes 20 minutes or so if you increase the bit per second to 115200. My computer > Ports (COM & LPT) > MAT USB-to-Serial, then Properties > Port Settings > Bit per second > 115200.
And then change the bit per second in Winmodo.

I have a Mat USB-to-Serial Cable and it works fine with that setting.

Plus there is a better change of your phone staying alive while doing the surgery if something goes wrong and u need to do it more than twice because it takes much less time.

Wow man, thanks for that! I'll get my self a cable tomorrow and give your instructions a go!

Any particular cable though? I looked on ebay and typed 'x70 data cable' and it came up with loads for about £8-£12. Do you think they'll be OK?

Posted by: Slickdesign

As far as i know my cable was bought from mobilefun.co.uk

http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/2237.htm

And it works fine at that speed

So i don't know about those ebay cable.

phone flashed succesfully. I did the firmware only. First tried at 115200 baud but it wouldn't go so I dropped it down to 19200 and it took longer but went fine. Thanks to all who contributed instructions and files.....

THANKS so much for posting this! Just finished flashing the A30 FW only...took about 75 minutes at 19200. Looking forward to seeing how the battery holds up tomorrow!

Plug the data cable into the phone while it is switched off minus the sim card. Start up Winmodo, click start download and now turn phone on. Should see the progress change...?

Why isnt it possible to upgrade through bt or irda?

Bit flaky upgrading a 250 quid phone via IR, no? If the connection to the phone is dropped at any point its bye bye phone. Rather use a cable TBH!

Posted by: detro

But is it possible?

And if u fx bolts ur phone down to the table or uses bt which dont loses connection so quick?

Posted by: detro

Ive found this site : http://www.ilcaso.too.it/ If u press panasonic>x70 then there is a category named Scripts and under that one there is a script called : Guida Bluetooth e Configurazioni
But since i dont understand the language i cant find out if it is a guide to flash ur fone via bt..?

My guess would be yes then. I had mine unlocked before hand anyway. What does the progress say in winmodo? It should say something along the lines of:

Exchanging parameters, then erasing, then you should get a download progress....

Nothing like that, it just says ">signaling..."
where did you get your phone unlocked and how much was it? Everone i've spoken to keep changing the price, it's gone from £5 to £25, and they still don't have the software
Cheers

Got it unlocked by a guy who runs as unlocking stand in Milton Keynes shopping centre. Took about half and hour and cost £25.

I think I could have got it cheaper if I had shopped around but if you cost in sending it off insured or travelling you will probably pay more anyway or so I figured....

I'm using windows server 2003, and my USB driver didn't work, so therefore i can't connect to the phone. Is there any driver compatible with windows server 2003?
