how to convert a wav to midi

i have an i730.
i've installed webjal (and patch) and i'm able to connect to my phone. i've used dbpower amp to convert my mp3's to wav files (1 mono, 8 bits).
when i run webjal, is shows the file (song) transferring and at the very end, i get "a general communication error occured while communicating to the phone...etc). but when i downloaded a midi from the forum, it copied the downloaded ringtone and transferred perfected. which leads me to think that either something was wrong with my converted wave (which was 25 secs long), or i need to convert it to midi. please help!!!

Since I know nothing about the i730, then I can't do much to help. One question though, does your phone support wav files? If not, then thats the reason.

When you convert a wav to a midi, its going to sound dramatically different since a wav is a recording and a midi is basically instructions on how to make sounds. Lets say that you have a wav of your favorite song, once converted, there will be no more voice and the music would have been converted to generic instruments

the i730 is a motorola iden phone made for nextel. based on the program that obvioulsy a lot of people use to make their own ringtones, i wanted to do the same. per another thread, using this software (webjal), the software has options for both wav and midi files to be transferred to the phone. the couple of attempts i made to convert the mp3 file to a lower bit wav file failed when trying to send it to my phone. I've read threads about people making ringtones of their favorite songs, voice and so on. I believe their should be a way for me to make this work. Thanks for the detailed response brainy

dude, word your posts a little clearly: it's confusing as hell...

you've got a phone that supports wav and midi ringers, but you've yet to successfully transfer a wav file to the phone (though midis are working fine)? you really can't convert mp3/wav <--> midi; convertors do exist, but they don't work well (they're really two totally different things, like sheet music vs. recorded music)

if you want wav, consider cutting down the length to about 30 sec or so (in addition to encoding it at 8-bit, 16000 hz, mono)

if you really want midi, just do a search for the midi file instead

*try the nextel forum*

Okay, i know that my phone can accept wav files (now). so when I tried to convert my mp3 to a lower bit wav (8 bit mono), using dp poweramp, at the very end of transferring the wav file to my phone, i get an error message (a general comunication error, yada, yada). so is there another program i can use to to convert my mp3's or is there something i should have done when i modified the mp3?
