I bought the mobile office kit from Verizon today and Im trying to use Bitpim to download my pictures and ringers? Is the Verizon Mobile Kit cord suppose to work and please someone help

I have the cord from the mobile office kit, but I did not opt to get the software, because I understand the software is only useful for connecting the 8900 to the internet, and not for syncing or transfering files to and from the phone.

That being said, there is software from Curitel (http://www.curitel.com) called PC-Sync, which should let you at least sync your contacts with outlook (it works for me), but the other functions of the software, such as syncing calendar, etc.. do not work.

Bitpim will let you access the filesystem of the 8900 directly and copy files from and to your phone. Copying files to the phone is a bit tricky, however, because it requires updating the appropriate index files with a sector editor, or tricking the phone.

To trick the phone, you should send yourself (email [your phone number]@vzwpix.com) a very small mp3 file with the extention changed from mp3 to mid. Once you've done this, you can resave the attached mid or gif into 'Media' indefinitely under different names, then overwrite the newly savedfiles with the files you want to upload using Bitpim. I uploaded both a small gif and a small mid file in this way, have resaved with many different names, and uploaded many new gif and mid files to use as ringtones and wallpaper.

I would suggest you learn your way around the directory structure of your phone with Bitpim. Make sucre you select 'view filesystem' under the 'view' menu, then all the actions you will need to perform can be done by pointing your mouse to the directory of interest and right-clicking. You'll see what options are there. One important one is 'backup'. Before you do anything, you should backup the entire directory tree.

Have fun, but don't go altering things willy-nilly in your filesystem. If you stick to just saving media files with different names, and overwriting them with the new ringtones or gif's, this should be safe (although I take no responsibility if you screw up).

thanks cutt i tried it and it didnt work. I hate verizon because they are money hungry. I shouldnt of signed another two year agreement because they try to suck every nickel and dime out of you. Im just going to keep checking back and see if anything better comes out that will allow easier transfer of ringtones and pictures. I took the cord immediately the next day after the post because its mostly for the express network which i not paying for. I'll just get rid of my 5 dollar a month mobile web (which is completely useless) and sign up for the 80 pix message plan for 5 dollars a month.

I never got the bitpim to work on my phone and wouldnt recognize anything and I tried. There has to be a different program out there similar to bitpim for the 8900. If you know of any good sites for 8900 reference please post
