What are the differences anyways besides the 8855 works only in Asia. When I go to the nokia website, the front of the phones look exactly alike. Im planning to get the 8890 and might mod it to an 8855 if there really is a difference or might look cooler or some sort.

Another Stupid question, is the 8890 stock backlight white?

well, i have 8850,8890 and today i got a new 8855.8850 has darker blue light,8890 has lighter blue light,while 8855 has white lights.All three are pretty the same.There are few differences.8855 has blue housing while,8850 has like silver housing.Menu is a bit different,cauz 8855 has some extra.
Also ive heard that newer versions of 8850 have white illumination

the 8890 is a dual band GSM
and so is the 8850, except the frequencies - one of them is different.
the 8890 has the frequency that works with GSM in the USA, and its
other frequency works in Asia GSM areas, Europe and Australi.
The 8850 & 8855 do not work with the USA GSM network.
The 8890 also has an extendable 2nd antenna for improved signal in low signal strength areas.

Beware of sellers (eBay etc) saying the 8890 is tri-band, it is NOT. Most new Nokias are tri-band, that is all 3 GSM frequencies are supported by the phone. Some people may say it is Tri-Band if it works in US, Europe & Asia GSM networks, but that not correct.

The US uses a different radio frequency for GSM as compared to the rest of the world.
But 8890 is older phone orginal intended for US market and people who travel to US and Europe. It was never sold in Australia or NZ.

My 8855 does not work in the US, my 8890 does, as well as Europe, Singapore, HK, Beijing, and Australia.

i just modded my 8890 last night LOL ! wow i been wanting to do this since 2002

i finally did it and i cant stop looking at it. i work in the mall and other people look at my phone an say what is that ?!?!! i put the 8855 housing on it an it looks pretty good. i bought the housing from ebay for 40-50 bucks its oem too has nokia on the face plate and on the battery cover.

only thing is it didnt come with a volume button so my conversion is 99.9 percent complete.

i read a thread along long long time ago some guy converted his 8890 to the 8855 an its a pretty good mod to do i love it . and as far as this light thing goes it does look alot diffrent when you put the 8855 housing on a 8890 my light used to be white ish now it looks dark purple which just makes it look even more wow
