The m56 has been reccommended by my local att store.
They say it has the best signal for my area ( north central Florida)

I would like to know both the good and bad about this phone.

My family and I have always used nokia phones.

Thanks so much in advance for all your help!!!

or what Siemens phone do yo rec for AT&T

whats your spending limit? are we assuming that you are going to be a new customer. b/c usually the m56 is a give away phone with new contract.

good:
- color display
- built in speaker phone
- small

bad:
- poor color display (practically all phones comming out are going to be color...even at that....m56 only utilizes 4,000 color screen when there are many using 56,000+ colors)
- speaker phone is a little hard to hear especially in large crowds and sometimes outside
- little connectivity options (i.e.- infrared or bluetooth)
- difficult navigate (at first i guess)
*all this stuff though...is only for vanity. none of it has anything to do with the phones actual performance in terms of functionality or signal.*

and is there any particular reason you are looking for just seimens? don't get me wrong...its a good brand...but unless you pay high dollar....there are other phones out there in the same price range that are just as good if not better.

the thing about the m56 having "the best signal for (your) area" is more than likely a lie. most of the phones (gsm) for at&t are probably going to give about the same type of performance signal wise. (sales guy is just probably making it up...normally they don't really know what they are talking about...trust me i know...probably just pulling it out of his ××× to make a sale)

just my 2 cents

Thanks for your response!

I have heard they make really good phones.
I am not partial to siemens but would like a fairly inexpensive phone that sounds good and has mmode access.

Standby time would also be a big plus. I have no need for bluetooth or infared at all.

I saw the m56 and liked its size. The AT&T guy told me it had the best rf performance (probably a lie)

What phone do you rec. I am totally novice at these things.
Thanks Again

I own a M55 (same except for triband) and I like it very much. Very good sensitivity, lots of functions and, with a cheap ebay data cable, you can get logos, games, rigntones and unlock the phone for free.

The screen, even it is not as good as a Samsung is ok, better than cheap Nokias.

For free, go for it. It's way better than low end motorolas and even Nokias.

Main problem, low battery life. I got 2-3 days, 4 if I don't play with it.

if none of that other fancy stuff matters to you...i say go for the m56. its a good phone for not a whole lot of money. hope that helps you at all.

Thanks Smarterben, it sounds like you really know your stuff.

Thanks!!

AT&T has so many phones to choose from. what price range are you looking at, and what are you going to be using mMode for?

AT&T also has edge technology (if its available in your area) which gives you higher download speed...much faster than gprs. but......then again...it just depends on what you use mMode for. if its just basic stuff...then stay with the basics.

phones that i would recommend:
-SE T616: a lil difficult to get use to, nice screen, irda&bluetooth, camera, etc. but poor RF performance
-nokia 6800/6820: fold out keyboard, color screen, great for mMode
-nokia 3200: cheesy looking phone, but has a built in camera, built in FM tuner, and supports edge. also a cheaper phone compared to a lot of others.
-motorola v600: great phone! camera, bluetooth, quad band, on-and on-and on.... down fall is price. really really expensive
-most the siemens models are also pretty good. i would say on the same level as most nokias. SL56 is a cool siemens model (its the one that slides, also has irda. i'm not sure if ATT supports that phone...but you can buy one at cingular and it'll work for all gsm providers) but......siemens are all pretty much the same...your pretty much just looking for the style you want and some come with a few extra features.

i could go on and on with a list of phones that you could buy. but for what you've mentioned so far...doesn't look like your looking for anything too fancy. so i just picked these. i would also recommend taking a look at the motorola mpx200. it runs windows and does a lot of other stuff too...but it may be a bit much for what your looking for.

if you like the m56 i'd say go for it cuz its still a solid phone.

Thanks for your opinion and suggestions!!!

We live in a rural area so RF is important.

I would like to check stock quotes sports, and send and receive e-mail in m mode.

Battery life would also be one of our priorities.

Thanks again!
