Can anyone help with unlock codes for the new V801SH by SHARP for Vodafone?

Here is the link for the phone for further details.

Cheers

It is almost impossible to unlock this device, sorry.

Thank you for your reply Pinkas. I hope you are just really kidding. Do you have the phone? I am thinking of getting one but I want to make sure I can unlock it first before getting it.

Pinkas,
Is the GX-20 similar to the V801SH? Did you buy yours unlocked?

Sorry for the intrusion - gx32 user from Hon Kong.

People here have been talking about ways to unlock vodafone phones including the v801sh but the sad fact is it seems really impossible to do so.

Besides, do you live in Japan? If not it won't be possible for foreigners to get hold of it - unless of course if you buy it from secondhand phone stores or online auction sites.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I do live in Japan and am using Vodafone as my provider here. That is why I am interested in the V801SH. I guess I'll just have to wait and see whether someone comes up with the codes later on.

Is the GX32 similar to the V801SH? Can youbuy it off the net, unlocked?

Thanks!

Well it's hard to compare the two but below is a short list:-

v801 is a 3G phone while gx32 is 2.5G
v801 has a 2.4" mon while gx32 has a 2.2"
v801 has a barcode reader while gx32 doesn't
Both have a 1M CCD cam built in
v801 is slightly bigger (but it's a 3G phone so it's forgivable)
v801 looks way cooler than gx32 :-)

This list is not at all comprehensive but I hope it gives you a rough idea.

And about gx32 - As Sharp made GX32 specificially for Smartone so I doubt if it will be available elsewhere (smartone is the sole distributor of gx32 in Hong Kong).

And I dont know where you can buy it off the net, for sure it's not available from Smartone's website. Maybe you can order it from some mobile websites or at eBay. Or alternatively if you have friends in Hong Kong just ask them to buy it for you.

Unlike gx30, gx32 phones are not sim locked at all, meaning you can use the phone with any GSM compatible sim card.

Pierot,

Thanks for your detailed answer. That was definitely clear enough for me to think about stuff.

Thanks too for the advice on where to get it. Do you have any idea around how much they cost?

Thanks! Cheers!

GX32 costs HK$4680, which is approximately US$600. If you agree to use Smartone's service for 12 months it will cost you HK$3980 (US$511).

Btw just curious: Where are you in Japan? And what phone do you use now? I have a V401sh that I use when I'm there...

WOW! That's a lot of money they ask for it! They are asking for around 26,000 yen for the V801SH here. That's around US$300. That is of course with the condition of signing up with Vodafone Japan. Still, it's a lot cheaper considering they don't charge you that much if you do decide to cancell the account within the same year, and keep the phone. Also, it can be used here in Japan as well. That's the beauty of the V801 SA and SH - they both work in Japan as well as in the worldwide GSM network.

I use a Toshiba (J-T010). Here's the site if you wanna check it out

http://www.toshiba.co.jp/product/et...afone/jt010.htm

http://www.vodafone.jp/japanese/pro...isyu/j_t010/03/

(They're both in Japanese though)

I am in the middle nothern part of Honshu (about 300km north of Nagoya). The city I am in is called Toyama. Do you come to Japan for business? I guess so since you have a Japanese phone.

Thanks for info. I can imagine phones are a lot cheaper there partly because operators subsidise a lot.

Have you thought about switching to Docomo? I was looking at their N900i last time when I was there and thought it was excellent! I was thinking about getting that next time I'm there.

And yes I go there for business.

Hi Pierrot,

About switching to Docomo, I have been with Vodafone for 6 or 7 years now and my work environment uses Vodafone so switching is kind of inconvenient. Also, Docomo is more expensive.

What part of Japan do you do business in?

Yes Docomo is quite more expensive but the 900i series is excellent. V801sh looks cool but it doesn't allow TV calls so I doubt if it will be a good idea to get it because TV calls are a major feature of 3G service.

I stay in Tokyo most of the time when I'm in town btw.

Hi

Do we know for sure that the device is locked? I know that Vodafone locks pretty much everything, but is that the deal in Japan also? Not long ago, it was J-phone, so they just acquired the company. Have they already placed their policies with the handset locking?

I am going to Japan in August, and I would like to pick up 2 of them. At least, I will check if they are locked, and if they are, try to talk to them to free it up.

Yes, we are sure that they are locked. I live and work here in Japan and I know first-hand. Unfortunately, I don't think you will be able to talk them into unlocking it for you. Vodafone sells them really cheap comapred to MRP (Manufacturer's Retail Price) on the condition that it will only be used on their network. You can try, I guess there's no harm in trying. Good luck!

How about the V801SA by Sanyo? Have you seen that phone? It is sold by Vodafone and it has TV call features. It is a little more expensive than the V801SH (I think it's around US$300) and it doesn't have the mpeg4 music features like the SA, but it's still a great phone! It's not a flip type though. Here's the site if you haven't already seen it.

There are no unlock codes for this phone either. There is a thread in this forum on it too.

See you around!

Thanks for the answer and to clear it up for me. I guess I just have to wait until somebody comes out with a solution for unlocking.
