Got my GX30 (questions)

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hello everyone :-)
(my name is Roei, im israeli.)
anyhow, i got my new GX30 yesterday- and i wish to ask a couple of questions.
first of all, is the MP3 stereophonic?

and can i open the vodafone BT limitation? it's really irritating.
i have a BT dongle on my PC, the GX30 recognize it- but can't communicate with it! what can i do about it?

another thing who buggs me - i saw a great picture who was taken by another GX30, of a pink flower. it's the exact opposite of the resolution of the picture i take (XXL, Fine). it's 1144 width, and 848 height. my pictures are 848 width, and 1144 height. i know it sounds kind of stupid, but the flower picture looks bigger and more like a square.

BTW- games and softwares can only be installed with a USB cable? can i do that with a memory card reader? and i would be very happy if someone could give me a link to a pretty wallpaper, i wish to put the most colorfull one in the main screen.

TNX on advance!
Roei Deutsch :-)

Hi Roei,

Think MP3 is stereo but you only get a mono earpiece. I heard the nec e616 headset works and also Voda are bringing out stereo headset shortly (obviously built in speaker is mono).

The BT limitation is currently nobbled and only a firmware upgrade will fix (which we are all waiting for some clever person to sort out). You can only communicate BT with headsets and car kits from my understanding. (PS. Infrared is also nobbled)

Games and Apps can only be installed via WAP. The card reader is only good for downloading photos and uploading mp3's and midi's/photos and videos but installing is nobbled (There is a backup directory created on the memory card but I can see no use for it).

You can set any jpg to a wallpaper (the phone can also resize it which is nice).

Vodaphone have stitched this brilliant phone up a treat - ie. they want us all to use WAP at great expense.

I won't go Voda again unless they change their attitude, it stinks haha...

The MP3 is stereo, but you need a proper set of stereo headseats. The speaker is obviously mono and the handsfree is as well.

If you'd like sign our petition to get Sharp to remove the Bluetooth limitations, look in my sig for a link.

I think they might have just taken the picture by tilting their phone, then used a image editor to rotate the picture.

you help me a lot :-)
i have some more questions.

im trying to make video clips with the GX30- the video's are very very tiny (resolution) and very short! can i change it?

and what about watching video clips on the phone? i transfered a couple of 3gp's and mp4's and it didn't work! can't the phone view video's he didn't make himself?

and about ringtones- what files are supported? midi? wav?
where can i find nice 40 'poly' ringtones?

TNX on advance!

Posted by: Koofteh

You can't change the quality or the size of the video. In terms of watching other videos on there, the size has to be at or under 400 kilobytes.

The phone works with midi and mmf ringtones, they sound pretty good.

so there is no way to watch real movies on this device? how about a third party software?
it's really irritating that i can't watch videos with an amazing screen like that.
what about internet? what webpages can the sharp show?
only wap 2.0 or does he have xHTML or something?

BTW- tnx for the camera advice, it acctualy worked! iv'e managed to make a square amazing picture like the one i saw!
(it weights about 500kb, that's why i can't upload and show you...)

Posted by: Koofteh

Yeah, you can't watch any good videos on it. That's what that petition you signed is for. Thanks for signing by the way.

It only supports WAP 2.0 I believe, no XHTML.

Posted by: GoatGuy

this things are very disappointing. should i sell the device for 780$ (i have a buyer) and buy a XDA2 instead?
or should i give up the video and internet?
and about the petition. could it really work? only 14 signatures, it's not a lot..
buy the way, i heard i can play really cool 3D video games on it. where can i find those? i only found really repulsive simple JAVA games.

TNX!

I'd rather have my Sharp than an iMate... but I do have my iPAQ 4150 to go along with it. I'd rather have a seperate PDA and a seperate phone (any phone, not just the GX30/32) rather than a hybrid.

The iMate is big and ugly... just keep the Sharp with it's amazing features and get yourself a Pocket PC for movies and audio.

What petition are you looking at by the way? Ours had 55 signatures last I checked... It might work or it might not, but it won't harm us to do it.

first of all... buying an extra 4150? no way, i don't have a money printer...the GX30 already cost me 3400nis (about 755$)
im not spending any more money!

another thing who bugs me about the sharp- why can't i sort my pictures into folders? does everything have to be in one folder?

Hi there,

I just upgraded to the GX30 and have bought a USB IrDA Adapter - ( www.usbtech.co.uk - only £11.00 + vat/delivery)

I can connect to the phone using Handset Manager - (supplied with the mobile) but it will not let me upload an MP3 to the handset - saying it has to be 100k or under.

Please could you advise me on how to upload MP3's to the phone using the IrDA Adapter?

If i cannot then please advise on how to upload MP3's without loggin onto Vodafone Live.

Cheers
Neo

For starters, the Sharp manager software only uploads to the phone memory and not the SD card... and the phone's memory is way too small to hold MP3 files (it's a mere 6 mb).

What I do, I use my SD card with a card reader/writer. My advice is, return the IR device and get a card reader.

Hi Shawn_230,

I appreciate the advice - although i'll keep the infrared as it will be usefull for my T610.

Cheers

Yup, I was going to edit my post but then I got lazy. You can't go wrong with £11, it can be used with lots of other things and maybe someday the Sharp phones.

Are you serious?? The GX20 has xHTML as well as WAP 2.0. I wonder why Sharp would leave this out of the GX30?

The phone can't handle folders either. It displays a folder icon but can't open it!

Getting java games/applications onto this phone is very difficult.

After realising the only way was with wap, I uploaded some java games onto www.euploader.com and tried downloadin onto my phone, the phone found the file using wap, but when I pressed 'get' the download failed.
BTW they stopped uploading of java games on that site now, only ringtones allowed for some reason.

Great forums though, just had a look around, quite a few answers to some of my questions.
