Wav. not working after converting to mmf/mid for T731??!

After converting an MP3 to a 16bit 8000hz mono .wav file, I use Cool Edit Pro 2.0 to change the .wav size and amplitude and to make sure it's still 16bit 8khz mono. Then I cut it down to less than 100kb and drop it into SMAF converter and it makes a nice little mmf file. EMS of course doesn't take mmf file, so I change the extension to .mid and it should work, however it doesn't. The only wav to mid file I've gotten to download wasn't one I created, and when I try to open it in Cool Edit Pro it says it doesn't support that file format... what am I doing wrong?? Can you drop .wav files into EMS?

Can somebody either point me to a thread that educates me, or reply to this post.... I searched for about three hours and this is what I found:

You can convert MP3 to .wav and then you can download a WAV ringer to a Nextel i730 - that doesn't do isht for a T720/T730 series...

I can convert an MP3 to a wav., and I have found .wav ringers that show as .mid extensions, but my Cool Edit Pro 2.0 won't recognize the file format so I can't find out any info on how the .wavs that I have were done....

I can't change a .wav to a .mmf or .mid and have it work - it shows on the phone but it doesn't play at alll.......

Help a brutha out here... I've done a ishtload of research and still can't find anything.. Here's what I've done..

Convert an MP3 to a .wav at 16bit, 8khz, mono channel. (also tried 8bit but it won't convert on SMAF).
Edited the .wav to be less than 100kb..
Ran the .wav through SMAF to change it to mmf...
From there, I have tried to load it to EMS both AS an mmf.. and also changing the extension to .mid... in both cases if it shows up on the phone it won't play. The clip is only 4-7 secs long on average, and only 20-25kb so it's not a size issue, at least I don't think....

Okay peeps, wireless gurus, and digital children.. wha'ts up? What's my bag...?

Try this simple little trick.
After you cut the part you want, convert it again..

8 bit
8000hz
1 Mono

Yeah, I posted that I tried that. That works if you want to load a .wav file directly to a Nextel phone (i.e. your phone the i730), but for a T730/T720 you have to convert it to .mid or .imy (or .mmf, a version of .mid). To convert it you use a program called SMAF, and that will only convert a 16bit mono 8khz file - I even tried doing an 8bit one. SO, back to square one where I do all the right steps, but it isn't working. I think I'm missing something but I haven't found it yet.... by the lack of replies I don't think anybody else knows either!! Thanks for input!

I also DO convert it twice, just to be sure. I tried converting it to 16bit then 8bit, 8bit then 16bit, 16bit then 16bit, and 8bit then 8bit, but once you drop it in SMAF, it has to be 16bit. All in all, after I convert it, it will DL to the phone but it won't play!!!!!

I figured it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The files were just too big.. they were running about 25kb to maybe only 20kb, but they have to be smaller. I did the 4khz option instead of 8khz, and it made them small enough to download and they work!

So, take an MP3 and convert it to 16bit 4khz mono, keep it under about 50kb, convert it using SMAF, change the file extention to .mid, and BINGO!! WOoT WooTT!

Hey CHECK THIS OUT! The newest version of SMAF converter is 1.2 - the HUGE difference is that it doesn't limit you to how large the file can be! That way, you can convert a 150kb .wav file and in SMAF hit the 8k -> 4k button and it will be less than 18k, so you will get longer wav files on your phone! Awesome. Go hear to download:
