Siemens SL55 GPRS Network Registration issue

Does anyone know how to force GPRS into Registered mode on activation of GPRS connectivity if GPRS service is activated and available on a Siemens SL55? For examples, the phone powers up finds the correct available service with GPRS and it automatically registers thus show |GPRS| icon instead of the plain GPRS icon. For reference, GPRS is enabled within the menu (Setup > Connectivity > x GRPS).

Everything GRPS is configured and works; WAP based browsing via GPRS, SMS via GPRS (if already registered, otherwise uses GSM to send out), MMS via GPRS (if already registered, otherwise uses GSM to send out), Internet access via GPRS over IrDA to my laptop, and Internet access via GPRS over USB/Serial data cable. But it will only register once GPRS connectivity is needed in an on-demand fashion compared to just registering ahead of time in an automatic fashion.

The reason I'm asking is that my phone used to do this automatic registration prior to my firmware upgrade to SL55 v16 from SL5C v14.
