I couldn't find in the forum how the heck to turn off the power on/off display & sound. I figured out how to change the animation to one in my media gallery, but how the heck do I turn off the midi tune. I want it to be silent when powering on/off. Anyone have an idea?

turn on ettiquette mode. either 7>1>6 or hold down the * key.

I mean the little tune it plays and the "Verizon" animation when you first tun on the phone or turn it off.

i don't know of any permanent solution but if you set the phone to Silent before powering it down, it won't make noise powering down or up.

I tried that. It's silent powering down, but still plays tune when powering up. Bummer. Wish you could turn it off all together.

hmm....mine doesn't sound on power up in silent mode. are you sure you have it in silent and not just ettiquette or ringer off mode?

Ok. Silent mode before power down does work (even when powering back up), however I still wish there was a way to remove the tune altogether. If you don't do silent before power down, next power up will play the blasted tune. If you forget to take the phone out of silent mode, then you don't hear calls. Just wish you could remove the tune. Thanks anyway though for your help.

I agree with you completely! I spent the first 2 hours of messing with my phone trying to turn off that annoying ××× music! I offered all my friends $20 to the first one to get my phone to quit playing cheesy music everytime it's not in silent mode....
So it looks like we're pretty much SOL then.

Can you please tell me how is it that you changed the animation instead of having the dumb verizon thing come out in the startup of the phone?

I hate that dumb hot air baloon thing, not only is it annoying, it sometimes takes like 2 minutes for it to load the phone software. A Motorola could probably boot in less than 3 seconds?

I have searched and searched on this topic and finally found this forum. It is hard to believe a product can ship with such an annoyance (in the first place) let alone provide no way to get rid of it. I am going to return this phone and get something that will not cause me to dive for a pillow, hide my face or grid my teeth when I turn it on.

Can you please tell us how you changed the animations? And where to get new animations? If I spend much more time researching cell phone stuff (about 10 hours so far over the last week), my wife's gonna bobbit me.

As soon as I got the 8900, i've done nothing but read about it on the forums and stuff. It's a new angle to my life this ×××× phone... But I love it
