Slider (SE47) problem - "weakened" display graphics

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Phone is brand new (got it three days ago). Occassionally, the display seems to be a bit weaker (for lack of a better term). It's almost like being able to see scanlines, where some of the rows are slightly more faded and pixelated.

The problem is much more noticable when doing something colorful and graphic-intensive, like Jamdat Bowling. However, it has occurred at other times during regular phone use. In every instance, the battery was fully charged and the phone was not plugged in to anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I need to know if this is a common issue or mine's just faulty.

(Apologies if I'm reposting a previous issue. I searched repeatedly, but this kind of problem doesn't usually lend itself to easy keyword matches.)

I had two "Sliders" and had to return both. The dispalys on both went bad. The first did as your's did. It got weak and then I started getting lines through the dispaly. The second one had the dispaly just go out.
This all happened in a week and a half after getting the first phone.

Oh, great. So, are a large number of these things rolling off the line as lemons, or do you (and I) just have bad luck? Just wondering if I should get a replacement or a different model entirely?

Thanks for your help, btw.

I loved the "Slider". In fact I was going to get a third one. But the saleperson at the Verizon store said the he would hold off on getting another one. The had several come back with display problems. Another salesperson said that they had replaced one customers phone three time. All with bad displays It could be that this one Verizon store received a bad batch of phones.
I sure did like the "Slider".
I picked up a LG VX6000 instead.. Will likely buy a "Slider" at a later date.

This is very interesting, I bought my wife the slider phone and so far it works perfectly and had not had any problems of any kind.. But thanks to you guys, I know what to look for just in case.. Thanks..

i went from the newer slider to an older one and it seams like the newer one has a more clear display than the one i have now its really bad when the phone is cold too

Well, my Slider is still having this problem, and it seems to be happening more often each day. The only solution is to gently thwack the side of the phone. This has the effect of either (a) fixing the problem or (b) altering the "weakened" effect so that a different pattern of weakened lines is displayed (sometimes better or worse than before).

I'll try my luck with a second Slider model and post my experiences here for future reference. Can I just take my phone into a Verizon store and walk out in five mintues with a replacement? What about all the personal stuff I've programmed in, or the bowling game I downloaded (unlimited use)? Just curious as to how much time this will take and what hassles are involved.

Thanks for all the input, everybody. Let's hope these are isolated incidents.

Sounds like it could be bad solder joints connecting the display to the board.

I have the same problem with mine....

I know it's been a while. Sorry, but I was in the process of moving.

Anyway, I got a replacement. A nearby Verizon outlet store gave me a new model and moved all of my contacts over (though all personal settings are reset to defaults and any additional downloads are lost in this process).

Good news is that the new phone works beautifully. Screen display is bright, even when showing full color graphics. Seems that this problem is not widespread (i.e. the Slider model isn't a lemon). If you have a similar problem to mine, just have it exchanged for another one.

Much obliged to everyone on this. See you around the forums.

The color on my display isn't as "rich" as my friend's. We used exactly the same wallpaper and contrast settings but his looked a lot more colorful. It's as if his phone can handle more colors than mine.

But i'm not going to exchange it or anything. i got a lot of stuff on it and i don't want to lose it.

Just my 2 cents. Or is there a simple way to fix this?

the only thing i can think of is that yours is in powersave mode.
look under menu-settings-display-backlighting-powersavemode
turn it off if its on now

Well, I didn't mention this before, but I had to have my Slider replaced TWICE. The first time was because of the "weakened" graphics issue. However, the replacement Slider they issued to me was shoddy as well.

The graphics on this second Slider were fine, but the actual screen display seemed a bit...for lack of a better term..."yellowed." Kind of like the way a computer or monitor casing will turn yellowish after prolonged exposure to the flourescent bulbs in the office. I checked all of the background/power-saving menu options repeatedly, btw. It was very slight and would have gone unnoticed except for the fact that I had such a clear memory of how bright (albeit, buggy) the previous Slider display was.

It probably wouldn't have been enough to return the phone again, but that second Slider was also poorly assembled. The top part was further apart from the base on one side, making it very rickety when using the buttons.

So, I returned it and this third Slider is perfect and holy in all ways, amen. I wouldn't even bother mentioning this, except that MYsticTofu's problem might be similar to my second Slider. Hope this helps. Just find out if you can get it replaced, and do so if possible.

I have not been to the forum in a while, but I had posted the dimmed/yellowed display problem a few months ago. I never noticed how dim/yellow my display was until I went to a Verizon store to see the Verizon Slider and noticed how much better the display looked. I have a Virgin slider, so now my question is how do I get this one replaced? Should I do it through insurance? I know the store will not exchange this one.
