RL 7300 vs. VM 4500

One of my friends just got the new RL 7300. It is very, very similar to the VM 4500. However, my take (these are all personal opinions, of course):

- I didn't check the actual specs, but it seemed a little bigger than the 4500 when placed side-by-side and not as classic looking (obviously the rubber makes it sportier). I thought I would like the silver speaker phone and rubber cover, but I don't.
- The menu buttons - particularly the right and left softkeys - are smaller than the 4500 and therefore harder to navigate.
- This is just a personal preference, but the default right softkey goes to "Memo" vs. "Web" like the 4500. I didn't play around long enough to check and see if you can change that.
- Obviously, no camera/video.

Just a few thoughts for anyone who was wondering.

My 2 cents:

I bought a 5400 when they first came out last fall- great phone--
However when the 4500 came out, I found it to be more attractive. But I was not going to pay $400 for it with tax etc, so I bought one of the first 7300's from ebay--again a great phone, but butt ugly--found a great 4500 -again great phone--

The 7300 may be tougher, I guess, and less subject to dings--and even if it got messed up, really would make much difference

AS I mentioned, I got the 4500 purely for cosmetic reasons, but the camera/video capacities of the phone contniue to impress me, and of course, it does a great job as a cell phone too.

Now about those new colors for the 8300, hum?

Once significant difference: the 7300 was not made with the defective hardware the 5500 was. Essentially, the redialing bug won't be present on the 7300 like it is on the 5500 and the 8200. Otherwise, I'd agree that each phone serves a different role and does so well.

Is this "redialing" problem in all of the 5500's or just some--the one I have seem to operate normally--all cell phones have little quirks- could you go into more detail about this. thanks

All 5500s up to date use the defective hardware. Some have the redialing issues, some will get the redialing issues, some may never get the redialing issues. Sanyo may possibly recall all 5500s and replace them with ones that have working chipsets. The bad hardware is also on the 8200 (apparently) and is not fixable through a firmware update.

Thanks for the info.

Um, no. The 7300s can have the redialing problem as well.

Could you describe what a "redialing issue" is?

As, I mentioned before, I obviously don;t have it, and hae had 2-5400's, a 7300 ( for only a day or so) and now a 5500 --none, thankfully seem to have the glitch.
