ringtone legalities...

to those HoFo members whom are in the legal studies fields, here is a question for ya...


are midi files copyrighted? or ringtones copyrighted?

ie. if I post mad midi/mmf/ringtone files on my site, am I crossing the copyright infringement laws?

if you create those midis yourself, and post them, you're only breaking the original artists's copyright.

(that would be like writing a song for radio and just re-singing another song. can't do that either. well you can, but you have to pay for it)

if you don't share, there is no reason why you can't use it on your mobile.
you can play "britney spears" or "michael jackson" on your piano at home and nobody cares. you're not performing/publishing.
