(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I currently have a moto v400 with cingular and the media basic package, on a recent trip to a local best buy i asked about the blackberry for cingular and was told that the att one would work. when i popped my sim into the at&t blackberry, all it said was invalid sim, and nothing worked. what am i missing? should this work...best buy claims the backberry's are all unlocked!
thanks

Best Buy was almost right - all BlackBerrys are SIM card locked. You will need to get the unlock code from AT&T Wireless. From what I've heard, AT&T Wireless does not give out the unlock code. OK. Best Buy was 100% wrong. Which BlackBerry did they sell you, anyway (7210 or 7280)?

Also, your Cingular SIM card/account must be set up for BlackBerry service, which is an additional charge.

it was the 7280, so basically media works and blackberry dont mix...
well that stinks

Well, Cingular (or T-Mobile) SIMs in an AT&T BlackBerry don't work. Even if you didn't have the BB service, you would still have gotten to GSM and been able to use voice and SMS, but no e-mail or data/web services. At least they sold you the correct newer BlackBerry....

Can you return it to Best Buy?

they popped it in the bb when i was there, oince it said invlaid i never even bought it.

Good! They were clueless on this one!

so where is this code found at? i have a 7210 and i need it unlocked, is it possible?

Wow - almost a 6 month old thread. Here is the deal (again) on unlocking:

AT&T does not unlock BlackBerrys. Ever.
T-Mobile will unlock them if you have been a customer in good standing for a few months.
Cingular now sells all of their BlackBerrys unlocked.

There is a company called Bongo Wireless that says they can unlock certain models of BlackBerrys, but I've never used them.

OK. ATT never unlocks phones. There is no more ATT!! Does Cingular have the capability and the will to unlock Blackberries??
I am one of the infortunates who is on Suncom/ATT and have a new ATT 7280 purchased on ebay. Being stupid I thought that since Cingular now owned ATT, the pone would work with ATT.
My first thought was to go to the local Suncom/Cingular store, where I found approx 100 people in line, waiting to change service over from Suncom.
This has to be the most poorly planned buyout that I have ever seen.
My SIL stood in line for 3 1/2 hrs only to find that the store had run out of phones.
There is bound to be a way to unlock these phones without paying outrageous prices!

Wow - you woke up a 6 month old thread!

From what I have read and heard, Cingular will not unlock AT&T BlackBerrys. In fact, Cingular (which use to sell unlocked BlackBerrys) is now selling locked BlackBerrys.

I agree that paying $100 is outrageous to unlock a BlackBerry, but that's the only way I know to do it.

If you're within the return period for the Blackberry, return it to where you bought it for a refund. Then just buy a Blackberry for the carrier you intend to use. For example, if you intend to use Cingular as your carrier, buy a Blackberry 7290 or 7100g. Problem --> Solution. It's just that simple.

I have read in several places that the 7100G works with either ATT or Cingular.

I just bought an ATT 7100G off eBay intending to use it with my existing SIM and then migrate to Cingular.

Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks
