I see in the Sharp program that came with the GX20/22 phone... the program has the extension (*mmf) .. so does that mean that the GX22 can use mp3s as a ringtone?
does anybody know about this... or have tried and see if mp3 works on the phone???
thanks very much =)

MP3's are not the same, and do not work on the GX-20/22.
The extension .mmf is also known as SMAF (Synthetic Music Mobile Application Format) that was created by Yamaha.

True mp3 is not mmf (and the other way around), but that does not mean you cannot get from a mp3 file to a mmf file, and thus be using "mp3" files on the Sharp.. I know the quality declines quite a bit, but hey, it's better than nothing..
Search and thou shall find..

YAMAHA's 64 polyphonic sound chip is different then YAMAHA's 16polyphonic sound chip(which is used by GX20/22).
The first one can play MP3 converted to SMAF as well as WAV converted to SMAF. The second one can only play WAV that was converted to SMAF, which is lower quality.
Just for you to know: Every device which has a YAMAHA's 64polyphonic sound chip, has MP3 ringtones support(as SMAF).

well sure u can use voice mmf and i have quite a few of them that i made myself... but sharp limits its sound files to 50KB ... in voice mmf that is only around 13 seconds... it wont even put half a chorus of a song... in most cases not even a line of the chorus... so wots the use...
but then u can use it for such sounds as animal sound...i got a dog barking one which is quite "acceptable
anywayz juz incase u guys dun hav i put some up. enjoy
