Creating Ringtones

Is it possible to get .midi files and put them onto your phone? If so, how? And where would I get the necessary equipment. And to whoever answers this question, you also probably know whether or not you can take basic .mp3 or .wav files and convert them into .midi format. Cause I've spent over 10 hours looking for a Whitesnake - Here I Go Again ringtone and I haven't found anything good.

ok... try to get a file sharing prog. like kazaa and d/l the midi ring that u want. they might not have the one your looking for. check me name and look for a post with an attachement that has 12 wap sites that are free. i saw white snake on ace and tokiediae. try and find that post by me. if you d/l the songs then use wap to transfer them to the fone. www.jhonny.org/wap lets u upload pics and ringers so you can d/l them. if you dont have wap (internet) then get the cable to hook up to ur comp and transfer them using mobile media browser or oxygen. post reply to let me know what you have.

Use PolyPhonix from http://www.logomanager.co.uk/php/products.php?id=52 to edit your midi files to suit the phone. This software has the phones profiles and so automatically allows any midi file to play on the Nokia phone in question

All awesome info, how the hell do I edit these MIDI's with this program you recommended. I just want the chorus of the song "HERE I GO AGAIN".

Easy- this is called 'cropping'. With PolyPhonix, just open the midi file in the software (use file, open). Find the bars that include the chorus (you can press space bar to play the tune in the software and pick out the bar the chorus starts on). Say that you want bars 5 to 9 to use as a ringtone.

Maximise the Grid window so you can see more of the grid, and if necessary zoom out using the magnifying glass button.

In the ruler area at the bottom of the grid, click just above the number 5, and drag to the right. You should see a small grey triangle (below the 5), a small red triangle, and a blue region in between. Continue dragging until the red triangle is below the 9. If you play the tune again it will now loop in this blue area. Make sure this is the chorus you want.

We can now extract the region of the tune contained in this blue area. Choose Edit from the main PolyPhonix menu, and then the Crop item. Click through the warning dialog, and after a short wait the job is done.

So I gave up on finding an .midi that was good, so what I've done now is got the part of the Whitesnake song into .wav format, and I'm looking for a good program that will convert that into .midi or another ringtone capable format...any suggestions? All the info so far has been great.

Intelliscore can convert .wav to .mid (and mp3 to midi!), but it costs a fortune. Guessing there may be an equivalent freeware- not sure though. I settled with PolyPhonix and just use midi files.

agreed. intellescore very$$$$, but no freeware or shareware to convert wav/mp3 to midi. stick with midis and polyphonix. best way to go real cheap.

Hi.
I have Nokia 3200 and i am changing into 7610.(not k700i of course).I want to ask something about its ringtones.Nokia 7610 has 48 chords polyphonic tones.Mine,3200, has 16 chords(tones,whatever!!).T610 has 32 polyphonic chords.Sounds on t610 are the a lot of better than 3200.Does 7610 with 48 chords plays more impressive ringtones than t610?Cause, i have heard ringtones on Samsung SGH- E600(Which is 64 chords) and they are not better than t610.I know.7610 supports MP3'S but, I want to impress my t610 friends, with the new ringtones(and S60 with programs and TFT etc etc). It;s hard to beat t610's ringtones.Does anyone here, ever, heard an 7610 playing ringtones???and then heard a t610(or t630 or z600) and compare them???

7610 has best sounding out of all the ones you mentioned....get the 7610

Hi,
I have a Nokia 3510, but no datacable and no wap (provider won't let me wap with a 'prepaid' card).
Is there a third way (perhaps similar to SmartSMS) to transfer my own MIDI ringtone to my phone, using either modem or internet?

Too bad. Well, yeah, cable doesn't cost much (just saw one new for EUR7,50 (plus EUR5,00s/h ), but it really surprises me that it is all wap nowadays...
Thanks.

I had very much trouble using the cable on my 3510i. Only with extreme pressure I could only once connect to the phone. Does anyone have this problem as well, or is it just me?

mobi is better than o2...but wap is still best!

To prepare your MIDI ringtones for Nokia, you'll want them in SP-MIDI format, which is MIDI with additional information which prioritizes the tracks by importance. In other words, if you have a 32-track MIDI playing in a Nokia that plays only eight tracks, you want the Nokia to play the most important eight tracks. Also, you can include info that runs the phone's lights, etc.

Nokia Audio Suite 1.1
You'll need to sign up with Forum Nokia to d/l.

That's cool that you can edit the lights, but I'm wondering if there's a way to edit the vibrate on my Nokia 6010. I make lots of ringtones, and all the default ones have the vibrate that goes along with the rhythm. Does anybody know how this is done?

Posted by: hawker

Njbair- PolyPhonix lets you assign the vibration as an instrument for any track- so the phone can vibrate any way you want when it rings.

Bugger684- with the 3510i cable, was there a piece of black foam around the pins? Did you remove this? If not, that may be the cause of the problem of having to hold it down to get it to work- the black foam may be preventing the contacts touching correctly. Also, check that each pin is straight and springy to touch, and clean them and the contact on the phone.
