Susteen now has 8600 support listed as coming soon!

Check it out:

Finally! Great news thank you for the info!

I agree - I bought a cable for $79 CDN and wasn't about to buy the MOK-8600 (cable+Smith Micro's Quicklink Mobile) just to get the software. Smith Micro claimed ignorance with regards to their developing the Audiovox software - licencing agreement conditions? There were no other options until Susteen made it's announcement. From the web page it looks like their product will support phonebook, 1x driver and ringer support - much better than the Quicklink Mobile from my perspective.

Now FutureDial also has the CDM-8600, CDM-8900, VI600 and VM4050 listed as "Coming Soon"! This is great - FINALLY we will get support for our phones!

(and now you know what SmithMicro and Audiovox can do with their exclusive MOK8600 package and licensing arrangement! For trying to force us to buy a cable with their limited software they can shove it where the sun doesn't shine)

Does anyone have any personal opinions or experiences they'd like to share on the relative merits of the DataPilot and FutureDial products?

The FutureDial listing specifically states Verizon under the CDM-8600 and CDM-8900 rows - does this mean a Bell user in Canada is out of luck? (Makes the decision simple if it's true).

There's a nice review of the DataSync software here:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...threadid=273319

Howard reviews the FutureDial software packages here:
http://www.howardchui.com/modules.p...ticle&artid=108 (Also cautions that non-US phones are "unsupported")

Of course let us not forget that BitPim is a terrific open source product that works on Macs too (Important for some users) and is just missing support for the CDM-8600/8900 - probably just a matter of time. If you waited this long, you may be able to wait a little longer. The availability of the FutureDial and Susteen products may well open the door for support for 8600 and 8900 phones in BitPim.

According to the Susteen site, Datapilot is now available for the CDM-8600:

I'll be buying tonight - hopefully this brand new release will behave well. I'll comment after I've had a chance to try the software.

I was mistaken - the FutureDial SnapSync software was available the day the CDM-8600 showed in the supported phones listing; it was the cable that was shown as "coming soon". This means we now have two sync software purchase options for the CDM8600:

http://www.futuredial.com/matrix/M_Audiovox.htm (CDM-8600 and CDM-8900)

and

http://www.susteen.com/phones_audiovox.htm (CDM-8600 only)

Just a word of note, the latest version of Datapilot has taken on the greedy stance of limiting the software to 8 unique phones. The older versions were unlmited.

For people who swap phones alot, or dealers like myself, this outright sucks.

Thier "comercial licence" is a pay-per-transfer type service, so every transfer you do, its $2.50 a shot.

I have no problems paying a higher rate for a comercial version of the product, nor paying for quarterly updates or so, but this is ridiculous.

PeterB, do you know how this works? Does it just stop letting you select a different phone after eight, or do you need to specify up to eight when ordering?
