I just got my demo 2 days ago and i already loved the phone.
With the light weight, small size and life of standby time (battery still working without charge from 2 days ago) I think FIDO have done it this time. A smart idea to choose a700 as their replacement for Mit G310. With price of $125 and $50 credit if activate on Monthly plan, i think this phone is going to kick the other carrier's a$$. The only think i dislike the phone is that the vibrator is kind of weak compare to Nokia 3390. But i am not that Pi$$ about it since the phone is really good in overall and i am sure it can help me make lots of commission.. hahaha...

PM me if you like to see how you can get one for good price.

Just bougth it yesterday for my wife, really surprised with RF. Pub we have used to go has washroom in basement - no one from my Fido phones ( T28, T18, 5190 ) has had signal down there -- VTECH HAS !!!!!. Upstairs my phones have had 1 bar or no signal, VTECH - 2 bars. So far so good.
I do not like joystick, it too sensitive ( but maybe it is matter of habit-I`v never had such a phone).
Menu is sometime strange and manual ( I`v never seen such poor manual ) even worse.
Guy in retail told it has IrD, so I will probabluy go to kick his .....( propose what I should start : )
Calendar is quite poor ( comparing with S40 ) but better than no one in T28. Phone book ( again comp S40 ) - no miracle, but for entry level phone not bed.
I like that I finally have SIM card with 250 entries, my old one have had only 100.
I`v never had 3190 so I cannot compare, but for me it looks way better that famous 51xx series ( weight, battery, functionality etc ). Not comparable with T28 ( world phone , otherwise same )

Missing - voice dialing ( this should be absolutely normal in todays phones.
- little bit profiles
more info in manual ( for what are the connectors etc.)
- melody composer ( who the f..... put inside those melodies? ).

Othervise : quite satisfied - perfect weight, very good RF ( only it is searching looooong time for network), looks that battery will be very good too, backlight OK, sound looks strong and clear-just as landline.

So long from GTA

Here is my review of the vtech a700 phone I got 2 days ago.

It is extremely light and thin, perfect for a shirt pocket!
I like the orange screen when it lights up and the RF and Voice quality are very good (better than the Nokia 3390 or the Mitsubishi G310) Which is for me the most important feature in a phone.

What I don`t like: the manual is incomplete, it doesn`t vibrate a lot (same as Nokia 8390) (when it gets too small it can`t vibrate a lot ...I guess), The menu is not as easy to understand as Nokia`s and I do not like the toggle switch to get around the menu, it does not respond well.

So so: the batery life seems Ok (half full after an Hour conversation 1 day fully charged), games.

Overall I like it very much except for the menu, it`s a very nice phone for the price, but again what I think is very important in a phone is the RF and Audio quality and size and that`s what the Vtech performs.

Addition after couple of days:

So far the phone is after 8 hours of charging running for 96 hours, still some battery left, that is together with 27 minutes of calling , trying melodies and some playing, 2 alarms daily, and vibra using. THAT IS GOOD.
Pretty annoying is that ALARM is not playing with phone OFF. Bad,bad VTECH!!!!
Gaining habit for joystick but still driving crazy. I has to programm some hotkeys.
Conclusion:

WAY better than G310

There is something I found that you need to get used to;
the send and off button are inverted compare to all other phone makers. Usually the send (green phone icon) button is on the left side.
Furhter more the joystick is still hard to manipulate and in the phone book menu, you can`t see the phone number associated with the person`s name, you see only the name. The battery lasted 2 days on a full charge, with about 120 minutes of call, 1 hour of game playing and 45 minutes trying to get to know the menu with the battery saver function turned off ( the display lights up every time you touch a button).
There is a free battery offer at www.vtechcanada.com.

The phone is great, it's small, absolutely the lightest I have ever had, and the menu navigation is excellent once you learn it. The reception is better than the 3390 by far, my gf's can't get signal when I can. The only problem I have is that the IRDA menu seems to be disabled in the A700? I am really unhappy about that, I am with FIDO. Can anyone tell me if IRDA has been disabled in the A700? How about the data modem that came standard in the European version of this phone the A600? It really irks me that somehow the North American version of this phone is so watered down!

I was too curious about this phone, so today I picked one up...
It's quite nice. Too bad it's locked to Fido... I I could only find a way to unlock it...

It's very small compared to the 3390... almost as small as the 8390.. Actually I find it a bit more "solild" than the 8390.
I didn't tried the RF performaces because I don't want to activate it on the Fido Network but from what I heard, it shuold be pretty good.

I tjhink this is the best deal for a GSM phone out there.
If you need bluetooth, color display or fancy stuff... well, this phone is not for you... get yourself a T68 or similar stuff... but be prepared to come up with a lot of $$..

Groovy!

the send and end buttons are switched around u say?
Motorola does that too....

Posted by: Groovy!

Oh! I tough it was an industry standard to have the send and end button at left and right.

Also noted on the A700, the low battery warning bip goes on 12 hours before it dies.
