questions about my Mazda3

so i got a gt sport and i dunno yesterday when i was driving in this area that i usually drive on i made a turn at about 80km/h and i actaully started to skid across and almost crash. i know it was stupid but my question is why would it do that? i only have 2700 km on it and the road was like dry and there was no signs of sand anywhere.

the thing i just dont get is how can a new car do something like this. like i did this ever since i got my car in the same area in the same conditions. it uised to be able to pull it off but yeha lol. my rear was flying around. what could possibly be worn down enough to make my car move like this? can it really be my tires?

The age and odometer reading of your car does NOT determine its capabilities. I thought this was common sense . You are lucky you didn't flip over.

Honestly I don't know if I should be flaming you, laughing at you or helping you.

I'll opt for the third option.

First of all, you were going a bit too fast on that turn. Most cars will lose control if you are gong that quickly and decide to turn the wheel.

Secondly, each type, brand and model of tire are designed differently. You probably didn't have as much traction as a result of your tires. I doubt they are Ultra High Performance Z rated tires. And even so, i'm sure they would have lost traction.

Thirdly, a lot of other factors play a role in this. Are you SURE there was no sand on the ground? Are you sure it was not wet? Hows the weight distribution on the Mazda 3?

Most Z-Rated tires are better than Q,S,T,U,H,V in terms of dry traction. Thats what I was implying

Zaku, for a 17 year old, I would be more careful. Both posting on this forum and DRIVING! What you did wasn't smart.

bizzy is totally right. If your logic held any water, people in brand new cars would never have accidents. Conversely, you would see people in old cars flying off the road and crashing. (Actually, then there should only be new cars left on the road since any older car would have already been killed off according to "Zaku's Law of Car Evolution")

Ok seriously Zaku, can you describe your skid? Did the back of the car come around? OR, did the front of the car just seem to not want to go in the direction you wanted it to go, and just plow through the turn?

If it was the former, which in a FWD is highly unlikely, what you have was oversteer. That probabally means there was something slick on the road surface ie. oil, sand, ice(water?)

If it was the later, and most likely it was, then you had 'understeer' where your tyres were past the limit of adhession and you were driving beyond the capabilities of your car and yourself. What that simply means is: YOU WERE DRIVING TOO BLOODY FAST!

So Zaku, drive slower please. I don't want to see you or your car, ending up in a tree because you thought cars with 2700km on the odometer are capable of defying comon sense and logic. Please don't try that again.

I know what you mean. I usually do a mix of option 1 and 2, with a twist of 4 (make them look even more stupid). But I decided to be nice this time.

young kid + lead foot + FWD = understeer. no matter what car you're driving.

well.. he said his rear was flying.. that's oversteer..

Let me guess, he turned too hard and brake in the wrong time?? that's one way to make a FF car goes over

yeah i kind of realized that it wasent a good idea. lol learn mistakes from experiance i guess. anyways the reare of the car was like sliding around and around. the reason im asking this is because i used to be able to do this all the time under ssame condition(im not crazy in any weather besides dry) and now i cant do it anymore. could the tires possibly of been worn out enough for me to kind of lose control?

haha anyways yeah i know this isnt a smart thing to do and after that little ordeal i do drive safer now =D. btw are the v-rated goodyear eagle rs-a considered a good tire? or are they just crap that mazda slapped onto this economy car? anyways thx everyone, and yes i know im stupid.....but i learn from mistakes
