So what is the big deal with the hemi hype that dodge puts out...Isn't a hemi just a hemispherical cylinder head? I thought the majority if not all cars have that. Do I have that right or is Dodge just playing up a big marketing scheme?

No, none of the cars have a truly hemi design.
Hemi CCs are the best there is. Valve shrouding is a non-issue. Flow is fantastic.
They are the be-all end all of factory heads.

Yeah, from what I've heard, the only 'real HEMIs' were used in the 50's/

Dunno about these new Hemi's but from what I learnt(not very much but a short short discussing), the Hemi's have a much better combustion then any other type of cylinder head available because it actually has a circular shape with the sparkplug located in the middle. Unlike other types with are kinda like triangle shaped and sparkplug located in the side wall, they will leave some unburnt air/fuel mixture durring combustion stage which will not produce its full power....I think, can't remember cuz I was tired in my class that day.

its dodges marketing strategy when it boils down to it.. i dont think a ram is the best performing pickup out there right now, so it cant be a technological breakthruogh or anything...
basically the generation of people that are driving trucks now a days are the same generation that were into muscle cars a few decades ago... we all know the legend that follows the word "hemi", so by dodge using this as their marketing, they are probably going to see a rise in sales..
Sierra is the best truck followed by the f-150 IMO

Yah most def. GMC, imho, makes the greatest truck ever. Although I'm not a fan of Fords, I do like the new F-150.

Ford Actually used a Hemi style head in 1969 in the Boss 429 Mustang.

I read a review somewhere that talked about the stock ram 1500 outperforming the chevy silverado SS

BTW as far as performance goes, dodge is currently winning the wars with its cummings desil & the hemi

howstuffworks.com has an explanation of how the hemi works..
