can i use mmf/smaf files as ringtone for gx3x?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

i found out that gx2x/gx3x supports mmf/smaf files. also i found out that mmf/smaf files could contain "real songs" like mp3 ringtones.

but gx2x is limited to the phonemanager(max 50k) which i cant really load any decent length/quality files due to this restriction

as i understand gx3x has expandable memory, so can i use a card reader and load these mmf/smaf files into the memory card and then assign these files as ringtones? if yes, what's the size restriction?

i'm currently using gx2x and planning to get a gx3x, so can i use these mmf/smaf files as ringtoneas?

thanx

so are you saying that its possible to select these smaf/mmf files as ringtones?

oh my god, do you mean i can have "real songs" playing when my phone rings?

please confirm with me again, i'm getting very excited here.

so if i create an mmf file from an mp3
(like i did on my old inno 80) i can then transfer that onto my phone and it will be a ringtone..... GROOOOVY!!!

yufu, any restriction on the file size?

not too sure.. mine so far so good.. tried more than 100k works fine.. dont see any reason why u want a long tone. Get a P800 or P900 if you want unlimited and good quality

yufu, would u be kind enough to check the size limit for me?

Where exactly do u place the tone under?
I have many tones that i used for my samsung b4. all in mmf format.
but i cant seem to find the tones under setting for ringers.

tones can be viewed in gallery, under memory card.
but no playable.

erm help??

Yes smaf ringtones work, although you need to jump though a few hoops to get there.

* Firstly the wav-smaf converter I downloaded from Yamaha's website wants a 16bit 4-8khz wav file (so get a wav file editor, I recommend goldwave)
* Then it's a case of dropping the wav on the convertor and popping the resulting smaf onto your SD card. Then go to the MyStuff area pick the smaf you just put on (check it plays) and go and click options then "Move To Handset".

* The phone will can only use ringtones stored in internal memory - which kindof makes sense, cos otherwise you might swap the card over and loose the ringtones!

I've done 9 second ones so far. I'm not sure if the 8khz limit is a limit of the convertor or the SMAF format, but it does degrade the music rather noticably. Gona look n see if there's a way round it.

Hope that helps you ppl.

I can transfer files into my mmc card.
Thing is i cant even play it to listen thru even thru gallery on memory card.
so i cant even click on it to transfer to handset.

Yeah I had that with one file I tried to upload, no idea why - I assumed I picked the wrong sample rate or something. Try authoring some new ones at different rates.

Nah, i figured it out already, i had to use the handset manager to transfer tones

yes you can use mmf/smaf as ringtones as i have one set now, it has the voices and everything.

anyway to make my tones louder? coz at max volume now, its still VERY VERY soft....
i cant hear my phone if its in my pocket...

You need to make the MP3 or wav file louder before converting it to MMF/SMAF. For wav you can use the Builtin Microsoft Sound recorder. For MP3, I have no clue, but I am sure you can find any sound editor, that will do it on downloads.com, etc.

Cheers

p.s. keep in mind, that quality drops, when you amplify it. That is my experience.

yeah, but currently its so soft i cant even hear the phone ring.
LOL!!!

That is exactly what I mean. Take the wav or MP3 you made the ringtone out of, and make it louder, then reconvert to MMF, and upload to phone.
