I have been diggin through forums and threads for two weeks. I have learned alot, but am still wet behind the ears on ALOT. I have been looking everywhere and I read alot about Brew and Gagin, and changing Map files. I am not computer illiterate, but this is the first phone I have had with extended functionality. I am not a programmer by any means. On to my questions...
What is brew? and why do I have it? what good is it to me?
What is Gagin? do I need it? what good is it? where do I get it?
as Far as Map files go, I will wait a bit on those, I think I can figure them out once I get Bitpim up and running.
ANY help would be EXTREMELY appreciated!
Oh Yeah!! Is there a way to check my VX6000 to see what version of software it is running. I dont wanna update if I still have all the cool bugs!!

Brew is some sort of software os for the phone..not entirely sure about it tho..but it's kinda like windows....in a sense..cuz most apps/games require brew.....
GAGIN is an acronym for Get Around Get It Now.
I beleive it's another program much like bitpim....
bit pim is as I have learned through various threads and sites...better than GAGIN...

Brew is the programming language made by qualcomm for verizon and other phones. Most phones use java, but verizon uses brew. You have it because thats what get it now is written in and is the offical way to dl ringers, and games.
GAGIN is get around get it now, and was invented for the motorolla t720, but works for lg phones as well. It allows you to view and manipulate the filesystem, and is pretty powerful.
Bitpim was written for the 4400 exclusively, but works on other lg phones. It is a more user friendly alternative to gagin but does the same things, like uploading and downloading pics and ringers, as well as backing up your phonebook.
Map files list the ringtones and wallpapers you have, its like an index of whats on your phone. This is where the phone looks to find rings and pics, and if they aren't listed there the phone wont see em.
