This is a review of all the gsm phones i have owned.

Here is how i rank phones for rf: (best to worse)

1) Motorola P280 - is the absolute best. can make a call where no other phones can. Antenna isn't as sensitive as most other phones either.

2) Mitsubishi G310 - with the antenna extended the G310 has almost as good reception as the P280. Can make a call in the weakest areas but not hold on to it as long as the P280. Very good performer though. Also it doesn't have a sensitive antenna.

3) Samsung N105 - performs about as good as the G310 with the antenna retracted. Not bad but quite a big step down from the P280. Has a sensitive antenna and can not receive calls if it's in your pocket and u are in an area with weak signal.

4) Ericsson T39m - actually has good reception except the anteanna is just too sensitive. if u point the antenna away from your head then this phone is just about equal to the N105.

5) Nokia 8390 - about as good as the T39m, which is fairly good.

6) Ericsson T28w - also very close to the T39 and 8390 but loses complete signal whereas the other ones are still holding on to 0 bars. Rf sensitivity slightly better then the T39.

7) Nokia 8290 - just a little below the t28w. does not perform very well in areas with weak signal.

8) Nokia 3390 - can not perform under weak conditions at all.

Audio Quality:
1) P280 (landline quality)
2) G310 (earpiece volume is a little soft)
3) T39m (incoming quality is nice, outgoing is tinny)
4) N105 (nice and clear but picks up too much background noise)
5) 8390 (very good outgoing sound but picks up too much background noise, has slight background hiss with incoming audio)
6) T28w (decent sound)
7) 8290 (harsh sounding, too much background hiss)
8) 3390 (most horrible sound ever, even with the EFR codec)

Overall:
1) P280 - despite it's larger size and boring games it's still the best overall phone that i have tested. Has all the right features for me, and also performs the best.
2) T39m - tons of features. Good reception. The menu is not as slow as some people say. it's quite fast actually....nice battery life...and portable...but has weak vibrator.
3) 8390 - nice screen, nice size, excellent sms handling, T9 is so quick on the nokias for some reason. Nice vibration alert.
4) N105 - best bang for the buck. Excellent reception. Very good sound except it picks up too much background noise. fun games...nice size...has some nice features...ringtones suck and vibrator is weak......no profiles!!!
5) T28w - slow menus...nice games....average performance....lacks some of the features we see in newer phones....
6) 8290 - would be a great phone if it's reception and audio quality were slightly better....weak battery life as well
7) G310 - this phone doesn't even vibrate.....even worse, there's no real time clock.......plus the phone is as big as my dilznic almost.....great for just calling and receiving.....but people demand more from their phones then just that.
8) 3390 - nice features....strong vibration....too hard to have a conversation on this phone unless u have perfect reception everywhere u go.
