Instead of a "new" P900, why not this idea?.........

Alright, we've all seen the rumors of the updated P900 codenamed "Layla". It appears to me that outside of the minor differences, the only main difference is this new flip with the QWERTY keyboard....

I dont know if I am the only one but I will definitely NOT spend another $800 for a device that is that much similar to my current P900 just to get a little keyboard.

It appears to me that Layla will be the exact same shape and design as the P900...

So why doesn't Sony Ericsson just release this new flip to add to our existing P900's?

I'm sure a firmware upgrade could easily make it compatible (if in fact "Layla" is the exact same hardware configuration as our current P900)

Either that or a piece of software could easily make it useable.

Anyone else support this idea?

same thought here...... unless they give the successor a 1.3= Mega Pixel camera... i am not going to get this "so call" updated "P1000"

try to imagine u have this qwerty keyboard on ur P900 and try to use it now..it's almost impossible to type at all..

i rather to use ezitap....

I think either SE or an aftermarket company will make a flip with the QWERTY keyboard on the inside. A program and maybe a little wiring should get the job done. Regardless still to small for me. Using the jot pro? seems to be the quickest way for me.

I don't even think a qwerty keyboard is even necessary or useful on a handheld device, assuming touch screen and predictive text are implemented...

Y? because its fake! it would be too difficult to use a keyboard on a flip because u cant even reach it with ur fingers without tearing the whole thing off. trust me it's not going to be like that and if it is, its not going to be upgradable for the p900 just like the p900 features were not added to p800 ie new OS etc.

o and i think the keyboard is neccessary because my hand gets tired writting all the time on my p800 and if its dark its a lot easier to see the keypad and just type with ur fingers.. face it stylus is great for the internet but QWERTY is GREAT for messaging.

If those photos & information are the real deal, then...

The Blackberry support and Wi-Fi (if it will have it) are a compelling reasons for me to buy it.

I like the concept of having a small thumb-board for typing my e-mails, but it looks way too small in those pictures.

Unfortunately, we can be sure that SE will not provide an upgrade path for P900 users.

I've never used the flips that came with the 800 or 900, so a qwerty keypad wont make much of a diff to me.

Better bluetooth, wi-fi, reception and SUPPORT is all that I ask.

I agree Midnight,

This qwerty thing just looks to be nothing more than a P900 add-on to me (and appears awkward to even use without breaking it off). SE already released an updated P800 with a new housing and a beautiful 65k screen and called it the P900! lol IMHO it’s really what the P800 should have been in the first place (release)

FWIW Here’s a little more rumor for the mill (even though it’s dated now) that might keep the flame a live…

Mobile9

i agree with the QWERTY i have used it on a treo600 and it is nice and a must

the rims have them believe me it is a must.....

Of course it's a fake, BUT the pics were made by SE, not some clever soul...

I’m actually lookin forward to what SE will be coming out with however long it takes. I might play around with a S700… heck, I just might get one of those big MPxs for my son to toy with for a while. That all depends on whether I'll get the Mpx for free or not. hehe

Question for you…Why is it that the PPC Campers keep coming back over to the UIQ to toot their horn if the PPC Campgrounds are so great? lol

i heard that SE is going to make a portable wireless keyboard for p800/p900. don't know if it's true.

How do you know they are from SE?

Why would SE make a mockup of something with an unusable QWERTY anyway? seems like they are wasting time, when they should be thinking of good ideas...

SE just gotta give us a new high tech toy that matches Mpx. The 'P' line is supposed to be elite after all.

That mockup even if it's from SE must surely be just a R&D thing. Think about it, why release anything else but an upgrade?

So I would expect Megapixel camcorder, 262K screen(maybe QVGA or more), Larger memory+Pro MS support, Edge, WiFi, BT2.1, newer UIQ/Symbian, New form keyboard(game friendly thumbstick), Better Stylus.

It has to top the S700 specs and maybe won't be a 'P' series anyhow.

Well wishful thinking

GSM 850/EDGE and one touch voice memo would be enough for me, but I'm easy like that!

Posted by: pinoy

i think the qwerty keypad/keyboard will be a pull out / hidden extension like that of the palm tungsten.

Posted by: contaygious

are those ones easy to use? never tried one. seems liek they would fall off or something haha

Posted by: 100thMonkey

well, what Pinoy is talking about is a text input area rather than a thumbboard. I have a Tungsten T, and I just used the screen rather than the grafitti area. Treo has a real nice thumbboard, I love it, but I would love the regular keypad on the Px00's flip.

Posted by: contaygious

the treo one is good. doesnt that new ipaq fone thing have a slide out qwerty? im still wondering how those things will work...

Posted by: 100thMonkey

I think that 6300 is supposed to have a clip on keyboard

Posted by: ShovelhEd

The pics are from a presentation given by SE.. We posted it on MB after all. (Not the presentation, the pics from it)
