(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: mms_user

i purchased an unlocked 6820 that came without any settings installed, does anyone know where i can get the settings for AOL and Yahoo IM, and also MSN Messenger if possible for the IM client built into the phone? for AT&T if that makes a difference or not. thanks in advance

anyone??

Posted by: BluewindArmada

the reason why no one has posted anything is because.. well, no one knows how to connect the 6820 to the AIM network

but we (the good people of howard forums) are still working on the problem

Hello everyone,
I do not know if you have seen my other posts but I am using TipicME for the present time. Not bad either since it uses wap instead of racking up on my SMS charges, thought i have the 300 plan. Non the less if you want to get it here are the links. Feel free to as me any questions and I will help you the best I can.

Download fro if you are going to use PC Suite to install
http://www.tipic.com/nokia40

OTA - download directly to your phone over wap.

Here are the FAQ I created in another post and then passed on to them.. Sorry to say that didn't remove the ref to my wife when testing but you get the point.

TipicME FAQ

May I also mention that if you get too many errors with your first attempt to install. Remove the application and install it with the other method.

It means that instead of sending via text messages which is SMS, it uses WAP (Wireless Internet) to send its messages. What happens is TIPIC connects to the tipic.com (the server) and whatever their gateway is, So when your IMing someone; instead of going thru your carrier (like SMS); it travels though the internet
get it??

I might be wrong in my statement above (hey i'm human ) so, feel free to change

Cheers!

Awesome , AIM enabled ATT phones go thru Mmode (I believe). Dude, I went tearassing around the settings for 12 hours trying to find those settings Another program I found on the internet is IM+, not a bad program, it costs 20$ but It's worth it. I went into my friends 3595 to try to find those cingular settings, but I began thinking about it, cingular is not currently set up to take messeges over wap only sms (again i believe) Also, your only accessing AIM and nothing else; tipic and IM+ give you the option of using other IM clients

Cheers!

It always takes me like 8 tries to sign on

As far as the built in IM application the only way to get the actual AIM/ICQ settings out is to find someone HIGH up on the chain on ATT or Nokia's side. Basically you are not going to get the information., trust me. As far as getting it to work over WAP(T-Zone), the AIM mobile site is not Wap 2.0 ready. So it will not work right with the newer phones. Nothing you can do about that but wait for AIM to update the mobile site. From the looks of it they are not worried about it or just are not keeping up with technology. Check into using TipicME(Series 40 & Series 60) or Agile Messenger(Series 60) I have tried them both and they work 90% of the time with no problem. Connect to AIM. Yahoo & MSN

Yamigo.Com register here and get a wv user name and you can connect to aim i think using the built in client, works a treat on msn. Check it out

For anyone still watching this Thread someone found the actual WV settings for tmobile that you can use in any of the IM pre-installed applications like on the 6820. I have tested and it worked. Please remember this runs over SMS so watch ur text message usage.

http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...age+tmobile+com

This should not be confused with using the browser and trying to use AIM.

Why are you going around and posting bad links and not fixing them?

Does tipic work with t-mobile? I have t-zones but not mobile internet.

I got the client and installed it on my 6820 but I can't seem to get connected. It keeps saying unauthorized. And yes i did make an account on tipic.com

Posted by: TBoom8669

I am assuming that you also have the $4.99 Tzones on your account correct? If so my next question is how long has it been since tipic sent you your password. The reason is that sometimes thier server takes a while to get the account active on the system. Let me know. Send PM.
