Planning on buying an MPx 200 and wonder how to check access to the 900 band. Also, if anyone would recommend a place to buy accesories, since I am getting the phone with charger only. No base, cables, etc...

Thanks

The AT&T MPx200's do not have the 900 band. To physically check, look under the battery. Somewhere there it should list the bands. If it only says "1.8/1.9" then it doesn't have the 900 band. I would recommend eBay for buying accessories, however be aware that a lot of the accessories sold on eBay are not Motorola OEM ones. You really don't need the cradle. It's basically useless if you have the USB cable unless you want your phone to stand upright. All you really need is the USB cable to connect it to your computer. In fact, you don't even need the charger if you have the USB cable since when the USB cable is plugged into the phone and into the computer, it charges.

You can download the ActiveSync program from Microsoft, and the MPx200 modem drivers from the Motorola website. If you plan on listening to music, you'll need the stereo headset.

It is an AT&T phone, but the seller flashed it with new software and unlocked it. So I am assuming it will still say 1.8/1.9 on the back. I am looking for a menu feature to confirm the change. I plan on using it with T-Mobile, but would like to have the 900 band active too for international travel use.

Thanks for the hint about the cradle. I already downloaded the active sync and ready to go. I'll buy a USB cable to sync it. Any other software required (I'll not get the original CD either)

I read here about smartphone 2003. Is that something I can do to upgrade from 2002. If so, where to start?

Thanks again

Currently, there is no publically available update for the MPx200 to Smartphone 2003. Also when you do the flash, it will show 900 in the menu as a selectable choice, HOWEVER many people that have flashed it and see that option in the menu say that the phone still will NOT work on the 900 band. It will only be listed on the phone and will not be able to actually connect to the network. However there are also some people that say it does work with an AT&T flashed phone, but I think the number of people that say it doesn't work outnumbers the people that say it does work. I will personally be trying my AT&T flashed MPx200 in China (supposedly 900 Mhz only) in a few weeks.

Basically it means that your phone do not have access to 900 band and you are basically SOL. Sorry to be direct, but that is the truth.
