Progress on killing Verizon banner on 8600 when call incoming?

Not to beat an old, dead horse, but...

Has anyone figured out a way to get rid of the flashing banner during incoming calls on the 8600? I used bitpim to replace the ERI, so the time/date stay on the outer display when the phone is idle -- but the display still flashes back-and-forth between caller ID and a blank screen during incoming calls.

I'm pretty sure this problem doesn't happen when you replace the ERI on the 8900, only on the 8600.

Sorry if this seems nitpicky, but it's during incoming calls, when I'm trying to see who's calling, that I find the back-and-forth flashing most annoying.

Anyone have any insight?

I've done plenty of tests and tried to figure things out. I'm pretty sure that this behavior is written in the firmware and can't be fixed by any hack. It's up to the service providers to provide an update to fix it.

press MENU (left ··· button) > 6 > 4 > 3 > 1 > OK

the verizon banner stays hidden until you roam. if you lose your signal or reboot, you'll have to do this again.

i have no idea what else it does (nothing harmful, i hope), but this trick works for me all the time.

Yeah, I know about this, but it does me little good, unless I want to do it a couple times a day (which strikes me as awfully annoying). I lose signal twice a day -- subway to work, subway home.

Thanks, though.

Well i don;t think its a firmware thing. When i originally got the phone it was loaded with a non eri prl. Both screens never flashed. i would love to have a non eri prl again but i've gotten no responce when i've askd the forum.

when the phone would roam or go to extended network and i can see that jsut fine and tell when i'm roaming but the triangel since thats what i had to do before the ac plan.

i kept the old prl before i had to update but unfortunately i can;t tell what the difference is between the two files

my guess is that something in the prl tells the eri to function

Yeah, I think that's the deal -- you either have an eri prl or a non-eri prl. Some people say they've been able to get Verizon techs to give them a non-eri prl, but I've never found anyone who's willing to do it. (If anyone knows a tech in NYC who's willing to do this, I'd love to know about it...)

Some one mentioned in the past that if you copy all the settings from NAM 1 to NAM 2 and use NAM 2 instead it won't display your banner. Can't really verify it myself since i don't have Verizon (thank god). But the settings are switched back to NAM 1 if get a IRDB update (not sure if that is the right terminolgy... i'm use to dealing with tdma/gsm phones all day).
