I just got a Treo 600 today. First of all, I have to exchange it already. In one hour of using it, it crashed and rebooted itself 4 times. That's not OK, especially with NO apps or files on there other than the factory stuff.

I was expecting this to be more intuitive, and I've had Palms before. From what I can tell, it has NO email application on it. I remember Multimail on my old Palm. It has no IM app.

Just crashed and rebooted again.

As I was saying, it has no IM app. You can only get to your Contacts database by choosing the Phone app and THEN choosing contacts. They couldn't just drop Contacts into the Palm interface like I'm used to?

I chose this over the Blackberry thinking that I'd have all the useful apps at my fingertips and more thanks to it being the Palm OS. I just sold my Palm i705 thinking this would be an improvement, and funny enough, I'm missing the i705.

Can someone who has a Treo 600 enlighten me? As of now, when this goes back tomorrow, it's staying there. I don't understand how not intuitive this is.

First off I suggest heading over to www.treocentral.com and having a look there. There is a wealth of information available in he forums there.

1. You are correct, there is no built in e-mail application. However, there is a free e-mail application for the Treo called Handspring Mail. You can get it from the Palm One web site. If you want something more full featured I suggest having a look at Snapper Mail. It's the best e-mail application available, but it's not free. Another more robust, free, e-mail solution is Eudora.

2. For IM clients, there are two good ones. Verichat from PDA Apps or Chatter.

3. There is a small application called "Contacts" Search for it at Treo Central. It places an icon in your launcher which takes you right into your contacts.

Thanks. Do they tend to crash a lot? I could have a bad unit, but maybe this is what everybody sees!!!

I'm on Palm One and they don't have Handspring Mail. Everything is VersaMail and it's not free as far as I can tell.

Resets are common when you use a lot of third party applications, but you mentioned you don't having anything installed yet so I'd say that's definetly not normal.

Yeah I got it a few hrs ago and have barely put anything on it.

Barely is not "nothing". Have you installed any third party apps? If so, they could be causing the resets, if they're not compatible.

The first thing I put on here is the Lightwav demo. Other than that, I've only added the Palm mail app and updates from the Palm site.

It has been crashing regularly since I turned it on earlier BEFORE it had Lightwav. I didn't think much of it the first two times, but now, it seems as frequent as every 15-20 min.

If this thing crashes every few minutes with only one other app on here, one that so far I've seen every person recommend, then this is a very delicate item!!!

I can't find Contacts on TreoCentral.

Thanks, I eventually found the thread with those downloads. I thought I was supposed to search the site and not the forums. But thanks.

After some updates from Palm, we'll see if it's still crashing today.

Oh I meant to ask one more thing. My SMS doesnt' seem to work. I'm messaging people all over the place, and none of them go through even though my phone says they were sent.

??? any ideas?

i notice one thing is Treo 600 does not give you a SMS delivery report as SE phones do.

it is very difficult to know if the sms has been delivered yet thou

SMS hasn't been delivered. I read somewhere else that outgoing SMS on this model for Sprint is messed up. My pic msgs were going but text ones were acting like they were going but nobody was getting them. I wonder if I was charged for them!

I found an app somewhere called TreoSMS. It's not free, but it fixes whatever is wrong with SMS so that you can send and receive. I don't know why we can't get a free fix from Sprint, but at least that's something!

i purchased lightwav. it is good apps. but somehow it has already crashed my phone for 3 times. when i am on a call, someone is calling me and show the other line's caller picture ID. I tend to not pick up the other line, and it crashes without a reason.

i suggest people do not use mSafe and has its "password protected after reboot" turned on. i found out it was very different to key in the password while i dirve. well, it is just me. hee hee.

I hadn't heard about lightwav crashing... maybe that was my prob yesterday.

What's mSafe?

mSafe is a program which will lock your treo with a password (after reboot, after remove sim card... etc). also, you can lock your treo remotely via a sms.

I'm really interested that you had probs with Lightwav. That was the only app I installed on my brand new Treo600, and I was getting crashes. That may explain that.

Is there something you're using instead to associate sounds and images with multiple address book contacts?

i am not too sure what's the cause. but based on the past few times crashing, they happened while the 2nd call coming in. not sure if it is the problem of lightwav or not. but overall, i like the apps.
